Dark mark on tooth caused by diet, what foods could cause it?

Posted on September 1, 2010

Yesterday my dentist completely got rid of this little dark mark on my tooth with a scrape & polish. So it's GONE now, my tooth is back to normal.

The dentist said the mark was caused by something in my diet, but he didn't know what.
The mark appeared 5 weeks ago. In the 6 months before this mark appeared, this is what my diet used to be:

- Breakfast = low fat cottage cheese, or yogurt, or toast
- Lunch = usually none. Sometimes i had a chicken sandwhich.
- Dinner = 6x a week, i had chicken, prawns or fish, with new potatoes or rice, and some salad or veg.

Most days, i'd eat lots of cashew nuts after dinner.

Can you see anything in my diet, or about my eating habits, which caused the mark? It's NOT decay or acid erosion.
Thanks V much =D

  1. Drinks are actually the usual cause of tooth staining. Coffee, tea, soda can all lead to tooth staining. Any fluid with a color can penetrate the tiny tiny holes in the outermost layer of enamel of your teeth and get trapped there after long enough. Food isn’t a common cause, because food particles are considerably larger than fluid particles, and can’t get caught.

  2. Im not to sure to be honest, although my nephew had a similar thing and the cause of it was when he hit his tooth on the wall (ouch)

But apart from that I dont see anything wrong with your diet.
