  1. No nothing will prevent you from getting herpes, once skin to skin contact with a sore (like kissing) has taken place there is nothing you can do. But that doesn’t mean that you will automatically get herpes from kissing some one. Just stay clear of kissing people that have cold sores. You should know though cold sores are very common to have on the mouth and they are usually passed on during child hood from innocently kissing family members or friends that have cold sores. Don’t be scared of it, it’s not life threatening it just causes some pain and sores.

  2. No. Herpes is a virus. It takes body fluid contact to transmit it, so in theory saliva could do it, but it would have to be the kiss of the century.

  3. Dear concerned:

If you are worried, don’t kiss anyone without knowing their status first. HSV1 and HSV2 testing at your general doctors office an take care of it. Oh, don’t forget that there are OTHER diseases are transmitted via saliva. So take precautions.

The best way is to prevent infection on the first place, not cleaning up after wards. Besides, Herpes is a virus, you can’t clean on the microscopic level, at least not yet by existing technologies. You may kill the bacteria, fungus, some viruses, but if 1 got through, they multiply.

Herpes is a social disease. Its the new silent epidemic. You should not be afraid, even though 90% of Americans are already HSV1 carriers and 25% have HSV2, genital herpes. It so common that you may already have the virus since you are a kid, you just don’t know it exist. Millions of americans are living today, everyone is still alive, it’s just a nuisance and pain in the bottom.

Keep a calm mind. Get everyone you plan to sleep with tested before sleeping with them. Use protection all the time, not for the diseases but what about the babies?

Protect yourself and live a healthy life.

    Best wishes
