how do you know when someone has bad breath without feeling it?

i just meat this guy on the internet n i just wana know if there is a way to know if he has bad breath without actualy being there to smell it? please dont focus on the internet part or whatevr..just tell me is there a way to know? thanks

Well you can ask him few questions like how often does he brush his teeth or if he smokes or if he likes garlic or onion or so ..
