Leg Workout how to work around a knee injury

Posted on September 6, 2010

www.LeeHayward.com Recently one of my personal coaching students injured their knee and came to me looking for some tips and tricks for getting a good leg workout without causing excess pain and strain to their injured knee. Working around aches and pains is a common problem that we all face from time to time, and if you haven't had any injuries or joint pain yet, you probably will later on down the road. So I've put together a quick training video demonstrating some leg exercises that you can do that will work the muscles hard but are very therapeutic on sore joints.

  1. hi im so happy to stumble upon your video today i just seriously injured my knee last week and will be scheduled for a x ray tomorrow. So what i would like to know is would i be able to play (baskeball) again if i recover? and if so, what will be my limitations after recovery? eg less explosiveness, hops, limited speed and variation in movements. I really need such advice from a proffesional who is also an athlete and i would greatly appreciate your reply. thanks!!

  2. hi can you get big legs without useing weights if so help

  3. Bodyweight squats and lunges would help at the start, but eventually you’ll need to incorporate some weight training.

  4. is 50 to old to get your legs bigger

  5. You can always make progress, regardless of age. One thing to keep in mind is that you’ll never be as young as you are right now, so start now.

  6. im 13 turning 14 and i need good legs for soccer what should i do without weights

  7. ur vid really help’d me, you really know what your talking about, thanks!!

  8. depends, do you want power or stamina in our legs?

  9. do those plyometric squats, do lunges, and explosive training for better speed (which is needed in soccer). Such as the 6 second workout, sprint the length of the field and time how long it takes you to get to the other side, then walk back…do this 6-8 times anywhere from 2-4 times a week.

  10. a good ol’ Newfoundland boy helping out the global community. I love the idea of these workouts for knee injuries. I have a bad knee my self and I cant wait to give these exercises a shot. Got any other exercises to help with knees that you can add in. Many thanks from Mt. Pearl, NL

  12. no dummy, you can get bigger at any age

  13. hey, i’ve a knee injury at the moment that i’m workin on…
…just an observation i made while watchin the Video… i was told that you shouldnt lock out ur knee on the leg press machine which you appear to be doing and i was told that this can damage your knee… hey i’m no expert, it’s just an observation and i’m using a leg press machine frequently at the moment, and just thought i’d pass this info on.
good video by the way :)

  14. My orthopedist says leg extensions are one of the worst exercises for knees. Leg presses are much better.
