Pros and Cons of brushing with baking soda…?
Posted on August 18, 2010
I know it cleans well and whitens your teeth, but I've heard it causes bad breath and it lacks fluoride.
Do toothpastes that have a bit of baking soda in them as well as fluoride work just as good when it comes to whitening?
What if I brushed with baking soda and then used a strong mouthwash afterward with fluoride in it. Could that be an alternative to toothpaste?
Or should I stick with toothpaste and just use something like Crest Whitening Strips?
Can baking soda dissolve orthodontic glue and destroy enamel?
Should it be used like every other day instead of every day because of this?

Baking soda does not cause bad breath when you brush with it , in fact it where ever you heard that was totally wrong. Baking soda is a natural odor destroyer, why do you think people put it in their refrigerators ? & in their laundry ? It is a great natural stain remover as well, that is why it works so well on teeth. You are right it does lack fluoride, & it doesn’t have the best taste in world. So I brush with it & do exactly what you asked should you do .. use a fluoride mouthwash after I brush.. hope this gave you some help & helps brighten your …….Day! & …..teeth!

Your not stupid at all, that’s a last resort to brushing like going camping or too far from a store. The "tooth paste" that has backing soda in it has been manufactured for you to use safely for brushing your teeth. If you swallow a lot of baking soda your arteries and or vain will swell up. I’ve seen a person get hurt by eating some for digestive pain.
