Atkins Diet Reply: Why was I successful?
In this video I reply to a user on why I was successful when others can struggle. Was it easy for me or was it sheer willpower? To me, it was a matter of the big 4 items: * Successful role models * Participant in Support Group (benefit from their wisdom) * Accountability * Other Concrete goals Other things that helped me: * a bit of competitive spirit with weight loss * Knowing myself and my ability to NOT withstand cheats * finding others who "blazed the trail" before me and were kind of enough to share their recipes I don't think I was special in that I think most people could follow in my steps as I followed in other successful losers. I don't believe my results may be unique, but they aren't atypical of someone who follows the Diet as written.
The Battle of the Diets: Is Anyone Winning (At Losing?)
January 17, 2008 presentation by Christopher Gardner for the Stanford School of Medicine Medcast lecture series. The case for low-carbohydrate diets is gaining weight. Christopher Gardner, PhD, assistant professor of medicine at the Stanford Prevention Research Center, has completed the largest and longest-ever comparison of four popular diets using real-world conditions, which he discusses - the lowest-carbohydrate Atkins diet came out on top. Atkins Diet Quick Hits – How long to do Induction?
I produced another Atkins Diet Quick Hits videos. In this one, I deal with question of how long to stay on Induction and what the warning signs to progress to the Ongoing Weight Loss Phase. I normally get this question from those with lots to lose or those people who become carb phobic. My response normally goes - you can stay on Induction for a really long time, but you should progress to OWL when you hit one of the warning conditions. Here are the warning signs: 1. poor exercise performance, prolonged fatigue, or tiredness 2. Blood work comes back out of whack - One of mine came back borderline for globulin, the doc recommended I start eating nuts. I had it rechecked shortly thereafter, and it was fine. 3. Boredom with the food choices. For additional information: www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com
Atkins Diet Recipes: Low Carb Pancakes
Here is my breakfast Low Carb cooking video where I make my favorite low carb pancake recipe. This isn't Induction friendly due to the Baking mix, but you could substitute some almond flour to make it Extended Induction legal. (There is an understanding by some Dr. A said they (nuts) could be added after 14 days.) Here's the recipe: * 8oz pkg cream cheese * 3 eggs * 3 tsp Splenda or equivalent liquid Splenda * 1/4 cup Atkins Bake Mix *recipe below * 1/2 tsp baking powder * 1/2 tsp vanilla * 1/4 cup Heavy Cream or buttermilk Beat cream cheese with mixer until blended smooth. Add the remaining ingredients, and let sit for 5 minutes. Preheat non-stick pan to med/high heat. Spray pan with non stick spray and use 1/4 cup measure per pancake. Yield 10 pancakes. Atkins Diet Questions: Loose Skin
** Graphic Display of loose skin around my stomach near the end -- Viewers may want to ensure a bag is available ** Today's episode I deal with the one of the most common questions people ask me after hearing of my 200 pound weight loss. That is, "do you have much problems with loose skin?" In the end, I have to admit that I do have a bit of loose skin (I affectionately & sometime not so affectionately my "SharPei") around my torso and legs, but it could be much worse. I could have the sheets of skin some dieters (more often low Calorie big losers) have or even worse be my original weight still living in fear of loose skin. There are times that I actually like my stretchmarks as they server as reminders of what might be if I think I can lax up. It also serves as a talking point like my pathetic driver's license does for people looking for hope, but most days I am just thankful for shirts. There are other things that are claimed to help, but I have not tried. Cocoa Butter and Mederma are both used by pregnant women to ease the appearance of stretchmarks. Additionally, I believe the content of this Diet helps in maintaining the elasticity due to protein and fat being featured. The body does not cannibalize its own resources like on other diets, and many report their skin looks as good and clear as it ever had. Good skin health implies good skin elasticity to respond to the weight loss as well. One final theory about loose skin: www.bodyfatguide.com To summarize the above ...
