Dental question/issue, please help. Brushing problem.?

Posted on July 19, 2010

Hello, I have a little dental hygiene problems I could use some help on.

Well, I brush my teeth 2 times a day, assuming the 12 hour protection. I floss 2 times a day, and I use Listerine (plaque version) 2 times a day.

The dentist told me it was plaque, but these dentists in Miami are extremely incompetent, he had no tips on what I was doing wrong, no advice what so ever.

I rarely drink water, but I doubt that's what's causing my plaque. I'm due for a cleaning in a few weeks.

I brush my teeth with anti fluoride tooth paste for about 4-5 minutes, then floss gently, rinse after the floss, then Listerine.

I do this twice a day every day, and I make sure to brush before I eat breakfast. My problem is, I seem to have a minimal amount of plaque. I don't really understand why I have this.

I brush my teeth everyday as I typed it, and even brush my tongue. I switch toothbrushes every 2 months. And I use a medium, soft, bristle tooth brush.

Can anyone please give me any tips you may have? Maybe the best toothbrush around? Or the best type or something. It's really disappointing that I do everything I am supposed to, and I still wound up with plaque.

I don't drink water too often, but I highly doubt that's what's causing my plaque, then again, I wouldn't know.

Any type of tips/advice/solutions would be great, thank you.

Do electric toothbrushes cause the gums to receed?

Posted on July 12, 2010

My dentist told me that my electric toothbrush (Sonic Care) with cause my gums to further receed (i'm about 2mm ahead of schedule) due to the "excessive force" they put on the gums (he recommended I get a soft bristle toothbrush). Is this true?

Does it matter what type of toothbrush you use to brush your teeth?

For example, will a sonicare or oral b toothbrush make your teeth whiter at a faster rate compared to an own brand or lesser known one?

I'm using Arm & Hammer and Colgate toothpaste at the moment and I'm using a normal toothbrush, no special bristles, nothing.

But if I use an apparently ''better'' toothbrush will it be more effective then my current one?
I think I am using a soft brush, I didnt mean to say bristle.
