Brushing with Baking Soda and Toothpaste?

Posted on January 22, 2011

Hello,

I've been brushing my teeth with baking soda and toothpaste together because I read that baking soda is good for the teeth. I've been doing this for a couple of months now. Am I causing damage to my teeth by brushing with baking soda 2 times a day? Does brushing with baking soda and toothpaste affect teenagers teeth? Thanks for your feedback.

What are the best natural products for whiter teeth, fresher breath?

Posted on October 6, 2010

I have heard a variety of ways to whiten teeth and get rid of smelly breath not related to halitosis. This would be in addition to regular brushing, flossing, and tongue-scraping. Some of the things I have heard include: rinsing with hydrogen peroxide, hot salt water, or diluted apple cider vinegar (yuck!); brushing with baking soda, baking soda mixed with peroxide, baking soda mixed with salt (that seems like nails on a chalkboard!). What are some other ways to achieve results until someone can afford to go to the dentist? Any suggestions for inexpensive products that really work?

Does Brushing with Baking Soda really whiten teeth?

Mom always told me brushing with baking soda would whiten up my teeth and make them feel a lot cleaner. Not sure though, never used it or tried it before. I'm a heavy pop drinker so my teeth aren't as white as they used to be or I'd like them to be. The thing is I bought Crest White Strips praying those work also. Could I use those along with brushing w/ baking soda for good results?

Any feedback would be great, thanks in advance.

Does brushing with baking soda to whiten your teeth ruin your teeth?
like.. does it remove tooth enamel like those white strips and make your teeth thinner and weaker?
or does brushing with baking soda only make them whtier somehow?

thankyou:)

I need to majorly improve my dental health, help?

I have two problems as I see it. The first is that I have some problems with insomnia so I can't sleep, meaning I just charge out the door and only have enough time to get dressed. No breakfast, no grooming. The second is that on top of that I have braces.

I'm going to start remembering to brush my teeth twice a day, but I have a few problems.

1) How do I get rid of the hard plaque below the line of my braces bracket and wire? Will brushing with baking soda and a little water help? Would that hurt my braces somehow?

2) My braces have opened up this space between my two back molars. It's really tender and food keeps getting stuck in there, and is stuck all day until I can get it out with my toothbrush. What can I do to keep that clean during the day? Gargle with salt water? I can't just chew on the other side and that wouldn't make much difference.

I'm only 15, but could a few months of bad hygiene really messed up my teeth?
My gums bleed when I brush my teeth, but I think that's normal when you haven't maintained them well.

I'm not an expert but it also seems like the gumline around my bottom teeth has gotten a little lower, and/or the teeth seem to be set a little further back. It hasn't been sore at all and it's possible I'm just being paranoid, but could that be anything?

I don't know if the orthodontist would know much about this, the people who adjust my braces --it's really simple stuff and they have a supervisor-- are mostly interns so I don't know if they'd know what to look for.
I'll bring it up at my next appointment but that's not for another month.

What can I do in the meantime?

What to do about my decalcification around my teeth?

I want to cry. I had my braces on for FOUR years. I got them when I was twelve and it was supposedly a two year program. I don't know what happened, but I trusted the dentist and the whole time for my check ups he didn't say anything about my teeth. I saw some plaque on my teeth so I started brushing with baking soda and they sort of went down a little.

I got them taken off yesterday and was happy, but then I saw them. The dentist told me I had bad hygiene (I know, for a while I was very depressed and didn't brush hem for two weeks, it's gross but the truth). He told me to use Colgate's "Plaques" or something like that.

But I am so very said I started crying once I got home. I hate it, I have some white marks on my teeth and I feel they are scratched or something, I don't know what to do. I don't even want to smile b/c I hate them so much. What can I do (especially from anyone with personal experience)?
