White plaque spots on teeth?

Posted on May 8, 2011

I'm 14 and I have braces. I get them off during the summer but I have had white spots on some of my teeth and my dentists are concerned because they can turn into cavities.. They have gotten better ever since I have improved my brushing but they r still there. I'm nervous about them showing and looking ugly when I get my braces off. My parents won't let me use the fluoride rinse my dentist gave me because she's concerned about it andme swallowing it. (so please don't say this rinse) is there anything i can do at home to treat this before I get my braces off? When I get my braces off I'm definitely using crest white strips. But anyways, please help! Thanks!!

Periodontitis and bad breath?

Posted on April 30, 2011

I've always taken care of my teeth. I eat healthy and exercise. Im in great shape and have had blood work done and results came back as excellent. I've gone to the dentist twice a year since my 20's. Im 45 years old now. Recently I have been told I have periodontitis. How does a reasonably healthy person get periodontitis if I brush, floss and use mouthwash twice a day? I am an excellent brusher and flosser too. Dentist never sees hardly any plaque nor cavities on my teeth. But he says the gums bleed a lot when he cleans them. He also probed my gums and they came back as 1,2 and 3's. I have one deep pocket at 4mm. Otherwise ideal.

I also have bad breath. Does this mean I will be plagued with bad breath the rest of my life? This is not what I want. I can see my confidence going down the toilet.

Any suggestions?

Canker sores after dentist?

Posted on April 25, 2011

I went to the dentist Wednesday last week, and had 3 cavities(I'm 16, this was the first time I've been in a few years) and I got all three filled, getting two shots in the process.
A couple days later, my mouth exploded with canker sores. I have three on my inner lower lip, one on my gum, and one on the corner of my upper gum. It's very painful and I have no idea where they came from. Any ideas? Thank you :(

Teeth cavity question?

Posted on April 24, 2011

I used mouthwash this morning at around 7, and it's supposed to be used to reduce cavities yada yada. I use Act Anticavity Fluoride Rinse. Is there a chance I can still get cavities even though I eat a few pieces of chocolate? I can't afford getting cavities and it's feels like the mouthwash might not work at this point, as in too many hours have passed and it might have worn off.
Yes, I use it after I brush my teeth. But it only says to use it once a day, would it be safe to use it twice, morning and night?

I have sensitive teeth?

Posted on April 24, 2011

My teeth have always been sensitive to cold, but lately they've started hurting from sugar, too. I've been to the dentist and ruled out cavities, so it's really just the way my teeth are.

I know there are special toothpastes and fluoride rinses that can help me, but here is the problem: I am allergic to mint. I have to use kids' toothpaste and mouthwash (although I am careful to use ADA-approved products with my dentist's guidance), so I can't really use a mint-flavored desensitizing toothpaste.

Are there any desensitizing treatments that have no mint in them? Or am I stuck with some sort of surgery?

Is brushing teeth with baking soda/hydrogen peroxide safe/effective/ok?

does it prevent cavities, and remove plaque/tar....tried it for the first time and it was much more pleasant....

just want to make sure it's ok, in order to keep teeth healthy and clean and free of cavity

Does kissing someone with teeth problems affect you?

Posted on April 14, 2011

Hello. In detail, does kissing someone with cavities, TARTAR (especially), or plaque affect your own teeth?

The person I kissed has been cleaning his teeth very well, but there is still tartar from the past.

Also, what about gum disease? Is it contagious?

What are some teeth problems that are actually contagious?

Why does my breath smell so bad?

Posted on April 3, 2011

this is kind of embarasing to ask but here goes.
i try to brush my teeth at least twice a day (okay sometimes i forget but i have never gone a day without brushing atleast once)
i floss 1-3 times a week.
i brush my tongue and roof of my mouth, right to the back.
i have no cavities, i had one but it got filled.
i don't have braces, and only wear my retainers sometimes at night.
there is no visible plaque on my teeth.
i'm 16 years old, female.
i've been visiting the dentist my whole life, and go twice a year

I think that's it but i hardly eat much (don't judge) and i heard that not eating causes bad breath.
So why is it that my breath stinks?! And what can i do to make it smell better?!

Teeth whitening done by a professional?

Posted on March 29, 2011

Does it hurt to have your teeth professional whitened?

I have extremely sensitive teeth. I have to go back to the dentist because when I had my braces, my teeth weren't taken care of like they should've been and I believe I may have a couple cavities now. Will they get rid of those before bleaching my teeth?
