Canker sores so frequent?

Posted on February 12, 2011

My boyfriend gets canker sores frequently. Usually from eating citrus fruits, which I understand is a common reason for these obnoxious sores. I hear taking 500 mg of Vitamin C could help prevent from occurring- is it true? and what else will help prevention besides Lysine? It sucks that he can't eat hardly any fruits because of the possible break out.

How long does it for for symptoms, like tooth enamel erosion, from bulimia to go away?

Posted on February 5, 2011

mmkay brace urselves for this....i'm 15 almost 16 and i had bulimia for about 6 months (i purged maybe 6 times a week on avg. . i felt pressured to fit it size 3 jeans and went with it. it worked. but i hated what i was doing. so this past november i promised myself i'd NEVER purge again. i got support from online groups, and so far i've been clean for a little over 3 months. i haven't told any of my family or friends about my problem because i'm too ashamed too. :( ...(i've done my best to keep it a secret from them)....my face isn't swollen anymore and my hands don't show any signs of it. but i have no clue how my throat looks, or the condition of my tooth enamel. have a cavity or two...but the thing is, that i never use to gets cavities and i had really good enamel. but now it's softer and a little sensitive. my teeth don't have discoloration....but i have a dentist app. coming up soon and will she know? i'm sure i could pass off with acid erosion from citrus fruits, vinegar or soda, but is there anything i can do to help my teeth? i REALLY don't want to explain this to my dentist, and especially my parents! that can't happen it would only make things worse! i have to go to my app. if i beg not to my parents might think something's up, cause i've always liked going to the dentist. what do i do? are there any products or at home remedies to help my teeth get stronger?
PLEASE:
~no responses like "u shouldn't have done that in the first place". i'm quite aware already. :(
~don't be negative.
~answers from people who know about this would be awesome.
~please help! (otherwise i might as well be screwed...)

painful canker sores / what causes them?

Posted on February 4, 2011

ever since i was around the age of 7 I've been getting very painful canker sores and I've noticed while I get them i different spots, most ALWAYS occur under my tongue at the very tip. once the size was soo big I seriously could not talk and had a bad lisp. usually the size isn't too big, but its soo painful. I avoid things such as citrus fruits, and spicy foods but i cant figure out why they still occur and WHY in the same spot everytime?!?!

ps. I read somewhere that if they occur in the same spot over and over you should contact a doctor. why is that?
one more thing: jus yesterday I had no canker sores whatsover. I went out to the mall and felt a tingling sensation under my tongue at the tip where i always get this sore and in 20 mins, voila! a canker sore and it was pretty big. just came outta nowhere.

What's the best way to get rid of canker sores?

Posted on September 8, 2010

I've gotten these all throughout my youth, and they are so painful. Especially when I get them on the sides of my tongue where they scrape against my teeth and cause days of pain. I've tried various things like Kanka, etc. But it still takes about 3-5 days or more to get rid of some. Also, for whatever reason...it seems like using the Kanka helps spread the germs to another area, causing another one. Sometimes I've even gotten them in annoying areas, like on the back of my throat. It apparently comes from eating various fruits and drinking things that have citrus fruits in them, and something to do with the acid. This really irritates me...my job requires me to talk the whole day, and it's extremely difficult to properly speak when the nerves in your tongue are reacting strangely to the pain of a sore being there. I know that millions of people deal with these, some more severely than others. What is the best way to deal with them, apart from the "go to the doctor" cop-out answer?

Why is the enamel on my front teeth wearing away so fast?

Posted on July 16, 2010

The tip of my front top and bottom teeth are see through (not completely, but when I put my tongue against it, you can see the reddish of it through the part of the tooth where it's worn down) and a bit of it looks kind of cracked. I never drink juice or any sugary drinks at all. I don't eat citrus fruits that much, always brush my teeth (and not that hard). What is causing this? I'm only 16
no and no

yeah i guess i will :/

Can anything carbonated destroy the enamel of your teeth?

I know things like soda and wine and even citrus fruits can, but does ANYTHING carbonated, like sparkling green tea or juice, destroy your teeth?

Can your tooth enamel be seriously damaged by eating lemons?

Posted on July 7, 2010

I have fairly sensitive teeth, and they often mildly ache after eating crunchy foods or snacks (like sunflower seeds), so I use a whitening toothpaste made for sensitive teeth. I brush 3 or 4 times every day. I avoid most snack foods that could do damage, like chips, cookies, pretzels, etc... but I do eat sunflower seeds a lot.

I also like to eat lemons... like, sucking the juice out of lemon wedges. After eating lemons, my teeth feel especially sensitive, and sometimes even *hurt*. I brush my teeth immediately after eating lemons, but they don't feel near as smooth and clean as they do when I brush after having no lemons. The enamel feels strange, and take a few hours to go back to normal.

Do lemons or citrus fruits in general cause harm to your tooth enamel? What can I do or what products can I use to protect my teeth and still enjoy lemons? Drinking lemon juice on it's own is kind of gross, so I don't think that's an option...
