How should i floss my temporary dental bridge?

Posted on November 28, 2010

i just had a tooth pulled and a temporary dental bridge put on last wednesday and i can't get the floss threader the thread the floss between it to clean the plaque away. when i could get it there would be blood on the floss when i pulled it out. is that normal or should i wait another week before flossing there and just rinse with mouthwash or salt water until it heals more? i bought a power flosser yesterday to try to floss between it but some spots i couldn't get it and i didn't want to force it. i used it this morning and my gums under part of my bridge started to bleed and i don't know if it's normal since i just started using it or because my gums under the bridge is still healing. will using crest or listerine irritate it or get rid of the plaque if i can't get the floss under it until it heals?

i have a temporary dental bridge covering 2 missing teeth and capping 2 teeth on the right side and i will be getting one on the left side next week. what is the best way to floss it? i have been using oral b superfloss with a threader on one end with spongy floss and the rest is regular floss and i thread it through and pull it all the way through. is that the way to do it or should i move the floss under the bridge along the gumline?

Use of an Interdental Brush

Posted on September 7, 2010

If you have fixed bridgework, braces or other dental work which connects adjacent teeth, cleaning under and around it with an interdental brush can prevent tooth decay and gum disease. While their use may seem intuitive, many people are unaware that plaque accumulates under bridge connectors, around orthodontic brackets, etc. This animation describes use of an interdental brush to avoid recurrent caries around fixed bridge retainer margins, and the resulting failure of expensive dental work.

I was wondering, how can I floss under my dental bridge without a floss threader? I'm all out, and I don't know what to do without the threader, any ideas?
