I have a TON of dental questions. Please answer all or one!?

Posted on September 10, 2010

1) I hate my dentist and need a new one soon. I'm due to go to the dentist in like 2 weeks.
2) It seems like when I brush my teeth a lot, I get like 2 cavities every time I go to the dentist, but when I don't brush as much as I should, I don't get any cavities? Is there a chance that plaque like protects my teeth, or that toothpaste erodes them?
3) I always feel so nervous when I go to the dentist, but I can't afford sedation dentistry. I've had issues since I had to get 2 teeth pulled for braces when I was 12. It hurt like heck and now I'm afraid everything will.
4) what is your opinion? Is it better to go to a smaller dental practice, or a larger one?

In your sources, when you answer any of the questions, if you could please tell me if you have any experience in the dental field, although I listen to anyone's advice.

multiple canker sores and white patches of loose skin inside of mouth?

Posted on September 10, 2010

Hello.

The other day I woke up with one side of my neck (right lymph node) hurting. Gradually it got a little painful to swallow. Later the next day I started suffering severe muscle aches (head to toe), and my lymph node had swollen and it was very painful. I noticed a canker sore on the inside of my cheek. Later that night, another one appeared on the inside of my upper lip. Througout the night, i developed a fever of 102 and 2 canker sores multiplied to 30 or more all over the inside of my lips and cheeks. I do have a nervous habit of biting my lips and cheeks to the point where they bleed, (had it for years) but never have I experienced so many sores at once. Along with the sores I have large areas of slightly raised white patches of skin. My lips are swollen, I cant eat, the muscles pains and fever went away, but pain is worse in my mouth.

anyone else experience something similar to multipe sores? Its not herpes (that occurs on outside of mouth) Could it be Lupus?

thanks
Note: I went to a dentist today because I was really concerned and I have two impacted wisdom teeth which I thought that was causing the pain and swelling in my lymph node. She was horrified by the number of canker sores I had and said the white patches could be Lupus, but it could be nothing (im hoping just consequence of me biting my lips and cheeks too much). Really, serious answers only please, hopefully someone with a medical background or knowledge or someone who has had similar or same experience.

How can you best promote remineralization of dental enamel?

Posted on September 10, 2010

I was at the dentist the other day and they used an electronic device to measure tooth density. Apparently I have a region on one molar that shows reduced density, but no cavity - they couldn't get a "stick" using a metal pick explorer and nothing appeared on an x-ray.

Since dental demineralization and remineralization occurs continuously over time, what might I do to encourage remineralization and reduce my risk of this area turning into a cavity?

Thanks!

Is there a way to make the teeth's dentine strong?

Posted on September 10, 2010

My daughter, now in her mid-thirties, use to eat raw lemons and still likes very acid food. This has affected her teeth which are now brittle and starting to crack and split. She practices good oral hygiene and sees the dentist several times a year. Our dentist told her to stop eating acid food and warned her there could be problems as she got older.
Last week a piece of one of her front teeth broke off and needed to be filled. This could happen to other teeth.
How do we improve the health and strength of her teeth?

why have i got such a bad tooth ache?

Posted on September 9, 2010

On friday i had to go to the dentist. i thought i had a chipped tooth and he filled it and said that ive got weak enamel. since friday i have had a bad tooth ache that keeps coming and going from where i got the filling done. i don't need to take any tablets but its really annoying me. Could it be my wisdom teeth coming in.
I have another filling as well where i chipped my tooth from years ago.
Both the fillings i got where i chipped it are Amalgam
When ive got my fillings done before i have not had pain like this

How do I use floss to remove tooth bling stuck on with dental adhesive?

Posted on September 9, 2010

I stupidly got a gem stuck to my tooth with dental adhesive at my nail salon. They said if I wanted to remove it I could use floss. But I've tried and it won't come off! Guess I will just have to see my dentist, right?

I have swollen gums, they don't bleed when i brush/floss…?

Posted on September 9, 2010

Maybe someone can help me out with this one. I've been searching for about 1 month on this topic and nothing seems to hit the head of the nail.

About 1 month ago, my last tooth (upper teeth) on the left side of my face had a cut just above it on the gums, i went to the dentist, he cleaned it with the tool they use to scrape plaque, he cleaned behind the tooth etc. He said maybe i had some food trapped in-between the teeth and it was further than i could get to. Anyways, the swollen gums, and pain associated with it went away.

As soon as the pain and swelling went away from the top gums, the bottom gums, same exact location but just the bottom is swollen and it's painful, i am taking approximately 6 to 8 aspirins a day. I went back to the dentist, he took x-rays, cleaned my mouth with the scraper again. He said the tooth looks good, the root looks healthy. He's not really sure what it could be. Is it a mouth ulcer? I heard the dentist assistant mention Gingivitis level 4, but they didn't diagnose anything, and i figured that the tooth would not be healthy if i had Gingivitis, but he stated everything looks good and to come back in about 1 to 2 weeks if the swelling has not gone away. I've been bruising, flossing and using listerine after every meal. I've also been swishing around Hydrogen Peroxide 2-3 times a day. Any help would be much appreciated.

How do I get rid of bad breath?

Posted on September 9, 2010

I have bad breath and I don't even notice it. i only know
when someone tells me. How do i get rid of it?? I don't want to talk
to my dentist about it. I'm only a teenager. Please help!
I don't think the cause of my bad breath is the food I eat because i just eat rice, noodles, etc. No seafood.

I have a question about mild/moderate generalized enamel hypoplasia?

Posted on September 9, 2010

I have 3 cavities needing to be filled. One or two of the three in the front I think.
My dentist recommended that I get ZOOM teeth whitening done, THEN get the white fillings matched to the new shade of my teeth.
I read the consent form for Zoom and it said something about open cavities and the bleaching gel getting into will cause substantial pain.
So then why is my dentist not doing my fillings first, then the ZOOM?
Also, I have mild/moderate generalized enamel hypoplasia and she said the ZOOM would blend all my white spots in (and my teeth are a bit yellow to begin with).
I did read something about ZOOM being less effective on white spots...so am I going to end up with blotches?
What are your opinions?
BTW, I have heard having ZOOM done is like chewing on tinfoil.

COMPLICATED dental problems, what are my options, can I keep my teeth?!?

Good dental practices thruout childhood, brushed daily, floss rarely though, at age of 14 started smoking ciggs, developed insane addiction to MT DEW,dabbled in some drug use (weekend recreational f(meth) for approx 1 yr) until became preg at 16. Then again at 18. Wisdom teeth came, to dentist 1st time since 14, was told I had "severe" plaque and I think some pretty major cavities, maybe mild gum disease (cant remember, had bleeding gums then, not now). Wisdom teeth out age 19-20-dry socket, finally healed. About 3 yrs ago went to see dentist for pain again and a "crumbling" tooth in the back. Was told I had severe bone loss d/t periodontal disease, had the teeth (Jaw?)of a 65 year old at 25. Resolved that acute issue and no more dentist. Now-my teeth are loose! (im 28) large gaps between them developing, DEEP pockets in gums, makes it painful to eat. Went to dentist 1week ago, 3 abscess teeth in back ,need root canals if I dont pull them. Intermittent sharp pain to my right side.
