Brushing my teeth with baking soda?

Posted on March 26, 2011

I mixed some baking soda, salt and toothpaste and used it to brush my teeth for the past few days. I can feel the difference. My teeth are really clean but my enamel feels a bit weird. I'm just wondering whether this mixture is safe to keep. You know being kept air tight in a container for a long period of time. I just want to make my teeth white and healthy not erode my enamel. Any piece of advice is appreciated.

Can the enamel on my teeth grow over my permanent retainer?

Posted on March 21, 2011

About six years ago I got a permanent retainer after my braces were removed. Recently, i've noticed that it is slightly covered with a substance similar to my teeth. At first i thought it may be plaque buildup, but I brush my teeth twice a day along with flossing once and using mouth rinse at night. I think it may be the enamel growing over the retainer is that possible? And if so, can i get the retainer removed without damaging my teeth or face the risk of having my teeth shift?

what is the best toothpaste to prevent cavities?

Posted on March 16, 2011

there's like 1000 types and I want to know which one is best for fighting cavities, preventing plaque, strengthening enamel, etc.
Preferably something I can find at Walgreens

I REALLLY don't want to have all my cavities filled. help?!?!?!?

Posted on March 14, 2011

I have 3 cavities on 3 different canines (due to the position of those teeth, i currently have braces correcting it) that actually hurt if you press something sharp in them & my other cavities are in the beginning stages. I hate getting my teeth filled and the sound of the drill and I'm hoping I can rebuild my enamel so i don't have to get them filled! I am not allowed to use fluoride because its harmful to the body. I was wondering if anyone had methods of preventing the beginning cavities and stopping the cavities that hurt?
Please no smart alec answers, i know, western medicine proves drilling and filling the only choice, but i know that can't be the only option, I'm more looking for holistic approaches.

Should i really be that self conscious about my teeth? Do people really notice them or only if they're bad?

Posted on March 11, 2011

I neglected my teeth a lot when i was younger but I've started taking care of them again by brushing twice a day.
I'm only 17 and i have really yellow teeth which is one of the main things i'm worried about because I'm young and my teeth aren't white like everybody else i know, and i drink a lot of fizzy pop so i've had acid /enamel erosion but now i use a straw when i drink. Would people notice this and really care?
Also, my two top teeth are really and i mean REALLY rotated and i have quite an overbite i think thats from sucking my thumb and i don't know if braces would be able to fix this or not, i really hope so though but if not do you think people would really care about them being like that?
My parents never took me to the dentist when i was younger so i guess i blame them for never wanting me to go so it was up to me to start going now.
So do people really notice your teeth when you speak to them and do they really care or do they only really notice them if they're really bad like mine because i'm really self conscious so i don't speak much and i prefer to cover my mouth but i don't want to be like that but i'm scared of what people will think of my teeth being in the state they are. I really do want to get them fixed as much as i can as soon as i can but i don't know for sure i could so if not what would people think.
If i met someone who i haven't spoken to before and i started talking and they wouldn't expect my teeth to be like that so i'm really worried about it and what they'd think of me because they'd expect me to open my mouth and have white, straight, healthy teeth and i don't.
Do i really need to be this self conscious and worried? I can't have the worst teeth ever, can i?
I want people to like me for the kind of person i am and not judge me for my teeth.

They look white on the photos but in real life are REALLY yellow:

(I know I've wrote a lot but i needed to explain in as much detail as possible about my teeth and how i feel about them with how they are now)

(Please answer everything if you can and be honest)
And when i speak to someone who I've never spoken to before would the best thing to do be to explain to them about how i feel about my teeth or should i only do that if they actually comment on them because i think if i explained it would make me feel better and less worried and self conscious about speaking to the person then??

(Please try and answer everything and be honest!)

How to get (almost or close to) white teeth?

Posted on March 10, 2011

I have incredibly pale skin, so my teeth show up so much if I smile with my lips parted (also, there's a gap between my two front teeth so I dont usually part my lips when smiling coz it looks terrible). I asked my dentist why my teeth are yellow, and she said that my teeth cant get any whiter by brushing it because my enamel isn't white, which sucks. I was wondering if people have any suggestions on how to get whiter teeth (without bleaching, because my parents wont let me) and weather or not that whole 'enamel isn't white' is plausable? Also, some ideas on getting rid of the gap between my front teeth would be nice :)
