Bleeding Canker Sores?
I have two very large canker sores on the inside part of mouth on the flap of lip, and they keep bleeding. It doesn't matter if I touch them or not. I've tried one or two different medicines, but that just makes it bleed more. It doesn't even numb the pain like it's supposed to! How do I get them to go away?
What happened to my tooth?
For background, I'm a twenty-four-year-old female with excellent dental hygiene. I always brush and floss, and have never had a cavity or gum problems in my life. I am one of those people who just have any dental problems. No plaque, no bad breath, no gum issues, no sensitivity...I've been using a Reach flosser and various sonic toothbrushes for years, and I've never used any whitening products ever because I'm worried that I'll hurt my teeth.
I've been using the same toothpaste (Crest Complete, day and night versions) and then rinsing with ACT fluoride mouthwash for years, and I wasn't consuming anything weird or acidic or otherwise bad or taking any medications. I eat a good diet, I take vitamins, and I wasn't making out with anybody who could have given me mouth herpes or something.
About a month ago, I started getting sensitivity in the upper right quadrant of my mouth and thought that I'd finally gotten a cavity, but it went away the next day and I had intermittent pain for about a week. Then one day I woke up and my mouth hurt so bad that I almost couldn't stand it, but I was broke, so I didn't go to the dentist.
One of my molars on that side -- second to the back -- was sticking out ridiculously far as if it was significantly longer than any of my other teeth and if anything touched it (including my tongue), it would hurt so bad. When I tried to floss in between that tooth and the back tooth, it took ALL of my strength to push the floss through as if that tooth and the very back tooth had suddenly become too close together. This happened literally overnight, and by the end of that day, the cheek side of my gum started hurting. I developed a sore along the top of the gum on that side that went from the back of my mouth to my incisors in about a week. It felt like an extra flap of skin and then turned into what I can only describe as a long, rectangular blister.
It hurt SO much. Seriously. It hurt worse than when I had pancreatitis last year.
The only thing I did was I kept brushing and flossing and started using G.U.M Rincinol. A week later, these blister like sores started peeling off my gum, leaving raw gums behind that healed normally. The sensitivity continued and the tooth was still jutting out too far, but now, everything is fine. It's like none of this ever happened and there's no pain, no sensitivity, no problems flossing, and my tooth is back to it's normal place.
I've googled and I didn't find anything that really sounded like what I went through.
I don't have a lot of money, so going to the dentist is something I only want to do if I'm totally screwed. The pain is gone, I have no symptoms, but I would feel so much better if I just understood what happened and if it's a sign that something else is happening that I need to get medical attention for.
Please don't respond with 'go to a dentist' as I am avoiding doing that because I'm busted for money right now and if I could afford to do that, I wouldn't be asking here.
Thank you for your time. Any advice is appreciated. :)
Update: Thank you to the first responder.
I'd like to add that I'm using Crest Pro-Health not Crest Complete. I have no idea why I typed that.
Also, I'm twenty-four as I said and according to dental x-rays I've had in the past, I have wisdom teeth, but they haven't actually made an appearance yet. I'm not sure if wisdom teeth could cause the sores in my mouth though.
Can your tongue be white whenever you don't brush your teeth?
I am 19 years old. I am a virgin waiting for marriage. I DO NOT use IV drugs. My parents are completely healthy. However, I kissed this guy. (I DO NOT know if he has HIV or not). Anyways, I have heard that you can get HIV from kissing if both people are bleeding however, I didn't taste any blood from him and I wasn't bleeding. however I did have this opened flap on my gums. It is ALWAYS been there. It was not bleeding and this kiss was open mouthed, oxygen present and it was a 2 second kiss.
Now the reason that I have given you all of this info is because I have these rough patches on the roof of my mouth that are like plaque and my tongue has white stuff on it. I brush my teeth and it isn't as bad. Is this from HIV from that kiss or not?
Also...I took an HIV test this morning. It has been 6 weeks and 4 days since that kiss. How accurate will the results be whenever I get them back?
Please help me out! I am so confused and scared!
Is my tongue white from not brushing? is it hiv?
Might I have Gingivitis?
I honestly brush my teeth all the time. I used to only do it a few times a week, But the past few months, I've been brushing 2 times a day. However, Just recently is when this possible Gingivitis symptom appeared. Anyway, On my lower jaw, In between two teeth, There is a piece of gum that I can flap back and forth. And it looks brownish at the root. How can I prevent this? I already brush, Floss, And use mouthwash daily. What else can I do?
How do impacted teeth develop abscesses?
Both of m bottom wisdom teeth are impacted. The right one hasn't given me much trouble since it came in. The gum sticks out slightly from the rest but I think that's because the tooth is pushed forward a bit. It's not really swollen anymore like it was when it was coming in. Now that tooth has a little flap of skin over it and I worry about it getting rotten but I am able to brush what part of the tooth sticks outside the gum and I got some little dental instruments from the drug store that I use to clean under the flap of gum covering the rest of the tooth. I'm very careful while doing this and it doesn't hurt me at all. I just gently lift the gum a little and scrape out any plaque or whatever under there. Been doing this for a couple weeks now with no problems at all.
That tooth started coming in sometime last year. I think it's okay for now as long as I keep it clean.
This year my left wisdom tooth has begun coming in. It seems to be more painful than my right one was and more swollen. It's causing some pain in that side of my jaw and some pain on the left side of my head - at least that's what I speculate the pain in my head to be from. This morning it was aching so bad it woke me up at 6am.
The tooth next to it feels a little strange when I push on it with my tongue.
Anyway... I'm hoping eventually it will erupt similar to the right one and not give me any major problems once this pain of it (trying) to come it.
I've been doing some reading on impacted teeth and I've seen a lot of notes on the fact that one complication may be that it can develop into an abscess tooth. I'm wondering how exactly this would happen? How long would this take? I thought abscesses happened when some trauma took place or something like that.
My best guess would be maybe from the pressure of being pressed against the other teeth it cracks the tooth or something and develops an abscess? I'm no dentist - in fact I've only been to the dentist twice in my life and I'm 20 years old. I have no clue about all of this, besides what I've been reading lately.
I really just want to know how an impacted tooth might develop an abscess.
Thanks!
Can still having your wisdom teeth cause you to have bad breath?
If I get my wisdom teeth pulled, hopefully will my bad breath problem be gone by chance? I know a lot of food gets trapped down there and I can't floss back there because they're halfway out of my gums, plus I have like a flap over them where the food gets trapped under. I put my finger back there one time and smelled my finger, and I was like "Whew!", I'm thinking I need to go ahead and get them taking out. I feel no pain from them but I think that's the reason why my breath smells bad all the time. I keep mints on me. Do you think this is a good idea to go ahead and get them removed?
