Flossing gives me horrible canker sores – anyone know why?

Posted on March 27, 2011

I brush my teeth properly every night, always have, and wash my hands before and afters.
However, every single time I floss my teeth (with clean hands) I end up with 2+ painful canker sores all over my mouth!
It's not the floss I use nor the toothpaste as I've tried changing those.

Does anyone else have this issue or happen to know why??

Anyone able to help me with dental hygiene?

Posted on March 25, 2011

I'm due to have my brace off in a couple of months, and was wondering if anyone had any advice on the best way to make my teeth pearly white and healthy. Product recommendations would be appreciated, but please don't just tell me to brush/floss/use mouth wash 3 times a day because that is rather obvious.

Do you floss before or after brushing?

Which is the right way to brush/floss to maximize cleaning? Avoid cavities? Avoid gum disease?

White bristles on my tongue?

Posted on March 19, 2011

I have always noticed it but now I am beginning to question it's existence.

Every now and then, I'll look at my tongue in the mirror. Usually it has a thick white coating of who knows what (plaque maybe?) and, when I scare it off with my fingernails or a toothbrush, the bristles on my tongue appear to be embedded with the white stuff on my tongue.

I brush my teeth every morning and night (haven't willingly missed a brushing in years) but I very rarely floss or brush my tongue.

What's going on? Is this bad?

I'm 14 and I think I have Gingivitis?

Posted on March 18, 2011

I don't brush my teeth very often, or floss.
But my point is, that I think I might have gingivitus.
When I look at my bottom gums, parts of them look really thin, almost like they are wearing down, and like my teeth are starting to grow out of them. They look kinda white too.
They also have dark red and purple blotches. On my top gums, there is something small and white I don't know what it is though. It's defnitely not a canker sore, although I have several of those in other parts of my mouth.
Suprisingly, the bottom gums don't hurt, but it looks really nasty, espacially the part where the gums are wearing down, and you can practically see the roots of my teeth.
The most painful part is definitely the canker sores.
Please help!What should I do??
I know I should see my dentist, but it probably won't be for a while. What do you think it is??
I am only 14. Thanks!
