Was my new dentist being completely unprofessional?

Posted on November 24, 2010

I lost my insurance a few months ago and when I finally got my new insurance, I had to switch dentist. Due to the fact that my old dentist didn't accept my new form of insurance. When I got to my new dentist's office the receptionist was very nice and so was the hygienist who cleaned my teeth. When the dentist came to check my teeth, after the cleaning, she was extremely negative and rude. I have braces and I'm due to get them off this year ( but I'm no where near finished). When she looked at my teeth she said numerous things which appalled me. Every time I go to the orthodontist they tell me that I'm brushing well, but this dentist told me that I'm not brushing my teeth and that I might want to consider having my braces taken off if I couldn't start brushing my teeth. It really pissed me off because I brush my teeth, thoroughly, twice a day. I also floss and use a Christmas tree brush a few times a week, not to mention daily mouth wash. I'm constantly picking plaque off of my teeth at home with a dental mirror and pick. It didn't even take but 10-15 minutes to clean my teeth. The dentist accused me of "brushing my teeth well right before I go into my orthodontist appointments and only then". She also said that I had the teeth of a 40 yr old and that my teeth would look bad when my braces came off due to white spots. I don't see any white spots. Gum disease runs in my family and I have very weakly rooted teeth, plus enamel damage for when I was much younger. When she would hit the vein in front of my front teeth I would say "owe" and she'd say, "that's not hurting you." Then, she said, TO MY FACE, that she wanted to 'referrer' me to someone else because of my anxiety. All of the things she said, surprised me. I always hear "you're doing a good job" when I go to an orthodontist, and despite my weak teeth, I had no dental problems.

I don't know if I'm over reacting or if she really was being a total bitch. What do you think?

Ok people I have chronic bad breath and I wanna get rid of it. How?

Posted on November 21, 2010

Yea I brush my teeth twice a day. I pic my teeth all the time when no ones around. Bad habit but still good for dental hygiene. I use Listerine twice a day. I brush my tongue hard 1-3 times a day and ever time I do it I make sure I did a good job of cleaning it off. (In case someone says the tooth brush dosn't worth. It isn't very good but if your patient and brush the tongue several times in a row with soup and water it eventually gets clean.) Regardless of what I do I can't get rid of my bad breath. It seems to generate in my mouth within 15 minutes as well as plaque buildup on my tounge. I'm starting to thing its genetics. My teeth are a big above average when it some to resistance to tooth decay. I mean I have gotten cavities but its rare and in the past I wasn't very good with my teeth like I would brush one a day or even not at all if I plan on not going out but even then when I go to the dentist the x-ray comes back either clear or with maybe one cavity after 6-10 years. I'm starting to think their is a connection between having my super teeth and bad breath. Maybe the bacteria in my mouth that smell so bad is the same thing thats protecting my teeth from harmful bacteria. So I have super teeth at the price of bad breath. I have no idea but i'm ranting and I just wanna know for to fix my damn breath. BTW I don't smoke, don't drink coffee, I drink a lot of milk and I know milk makes a lot of plaque very fast so I always brush after I drank my fill. I am at wits end.

Has anyone used the new Sonicare battery operated toothbrush?

Posted on October 5, 2010

I am an adult who recently had metal braces put on my teeth. Now that the soreness is gone, I am thinking about buying an electric toothbrush to make sure I am doing a good job with brushing. From reading others questions, most people prefer Sonicare. I recently noticed they have a new e3000 version that uses two AA batteries. On the website this brush is marketed to preteens and teens. Would this brush be suitable for an adult? Is it just like other versions but without the "extras" and the rechargeable battery?

Why in UK the dentist doesn't like to treat the children's teeth?

Posted on September 6, 2010

During my child's life i took her to the dentist 4 times, in 3 different city in UK and only once a dentist cared to clean her teeth of tartar or plaque.
All plaque and tartar is harmful to the teeth as it promotes tooth decay as it eats away at the enamel on the teeth, than WHY don't they bother to remove them?
My child's teeth are healthy, but as with anyone else, occasionally plaque happens and i have to take them off myself because the dentist just look at them and ignore them, but i can't do a good job because I don't have their facilities and experience and training.
Next time we visited the only dentist that cleaned her teeth, he was not longer working in there, instead a lazy dentist that even though he was seeing the plaque with the help of light and even pointed to them, just said her teeth were fine...
Please help, what is going on?

Tooth pain after zoom teeth whitening?

Posted on September 3, 2010

I had Zoom Whitining done today at the Dentist office and it did a really good job, but WOW my teeth are super sensitive now. Some of them are even throbbing, is this normal and how long will it last?
It has been 14 hours and it still is pretty uncomfortable, but nowhere near as bad as it was earlier, so I think it is getting better.
Nope, I did not recieve any additional flouride rinse, but I do have to go back to get some home bleaching trays.

Do I have a cavity????

Posted on August 12, 2010

Starting earlier today, a few of mt teeth started to hurt. They are all right next to each other. i have braces, brush my teeth twice a day, take a fluoride daily, however I have braces and flossing is very hard. I used to get bad reports from the dentist a few years ago, then the reports got good and then bad, however over the last 6 months I have gotten compliments on my teeth brushing from the dentist. I went to the dentist a few months ago and they said I was doing a good job. Do I have a cavity?

I had to have my gums scaled today and apparently have some pretty bad gingivitis. Can you help?

Posted on July 30, 2010

I was SO unpleasantly surprised today when I went to a new dentist for a cleaning and they told me I had to have my gums scaled because I had some major gingivitis. Obviously my other dentist wasn't doing a good job and totally disregarded that my back teeth were covered in tartar (most likely from my braces). and that the bottom backs of my teeth (from my permanent retainer) had a huge plaque band.

I was especially surprised because I brush and floss twice a day, use mouthwash, etc. I got a major scraping today throughout my whole mouth and I have to go back in 6 weeks to get the rest cleaned up. Is there anything special I need to do to keep this at bay? I'm thinking this is mainly from my braces but my mother has to get this done every time she goes to the dentist because she just has plaque issues.

I was just so floored because she asked me if my gums would bleed when I brushed or flossed and they don't...that's why I was so confused. Has this kind of thing happened to anybody else where you thought your teeth were extremely healthy but you wound up being told the complete opposite?

How do you get plaque off of brace brackets?

Posted on July 30, 2010

I'm doing a good job keeping my teeth up with braces. My hygienist taught me how to do it properly and so far it's working. I use the Sonicaire, Waterpik, and I floss as well. I also use mouthwash and proxy brushes. I am able to keep the plaque from building up between my lower teeth (which are close together). However, I'm noticing plaque buildup on my brace brackets themselves. At first I thought it was the clear band fading but it's not, it's actually plaque because I was able to pull a little off with a proxy brush. How do I remove this plaque? I don't want to pop off a bracket and it's very difficult to reach. Floss won't help, a proxy brush isn't strong enough, and a toothbrush can't really get that area too well. Thanks.
