I have pain in-between two of my teeth?

Posted on October 6, 2010

For a couple of months its been happening. For like 3 of these months the pain was on and off when i was brushing my teeth and it didn't hurt when i was eating. Just recently it started to become a little more intense and since its near valentines day I've been eating chocolate and it hurts in the same 2 spots in-between my teeth only when i started eating the chocolate. Could it be an exposed nerve or a cavity. I'm very skeptical that its a cavity because I've been keeping good oral health ever since my first (only) cavity and it is strange for a cavity to emerge in-between someones teeth. I usually brush my teeth twice a day and on occasions if i come home early and have time 3 times a day after i eat. If somebody could give me some insight on what it could be it would be greatly appreciated.

p.s: I don't know if this additional information will help but it doesn't hurt in-between my teeth in cases of hot and cold foods, etc.

Is there something wrong with my gums? Pink and black?

Posted on September 28, 2010

It's been bothering me lately..okay..so
I have pink, lightish pink, and blackish gums.
My mother is chinese, and my father is african american (in case you were wondering)

I feel as if my gums are..multi-colored..and I'm really kind of scared it's like a disease or something.
I have good oral health, brushed my teeth two times a day since I was little.
No, I don't have "aids" or "hiv", I'm only 14..

Also, I took a photo for people to examine..(notice, the camera is slightly tilted)
Are my gums normal?

I really needed to ask since it's really been bothering me.
One more thing, I went to the dentist and she never said anything about unhealthy gums and
such..but i still want to make sure.
There has been this very thin line of white on the gum line of my bottom teeth..
what could it be? I think it's been there before, but I don't think I ever payed attention to my
teeth until I chipped my front teeth a bit (but got it filled)
I'm really selfconcious about my teeth..someone help me?

Finding help for gum disease/dental problems on a college student's budget? (Or insurance options)?

Posted on September 28, 2010

Growing up, my family never had dental or health insurance. My mother took me to the dentist when I was two or so for a check up, but after that I wasn't able to go again until the sixth grade when I had a cavity the size of a crater in one of my back teeth. It had been hurting my ear more than my mouth, so we thought it had been an ear infection. I ended up getting a root canal and practically rebuilding the tooth, as well as two other small fillings. I didn't feel thing! I was lucky my grandmother was still alive then to foot the bill.

I went again at the end of my senior year in high school for a cleaning, filling two cavities, and seeing what could be done about my wonky back (wisdom?) teeth and TMD. (As an aside: I was punched in the jaw accidentally when I was younger, and the doctor told us to see a dentist. The sixth grade dentist told us we'd have to see a doctor about it. The next doctor told us to see a dentist. The senior year dentist said to see a doctor. Can anyone give me some advice on this matter while you're here?)

Long story long, I haven't seen a dentist since then. I had a really bad vitamin B12 deficiency last year that no one could figure out, and despite flossing and brushing to an almost obsessive extent and trying to maintain good oral health, my gums kept recessing. I've always had a tooth on my bottom row that was pushed forward when those (still) wonky back teeth grew in. That's where it's the worst.

I've been begging my mother to send me to a dentist since then. I even asked for a dentist appointment for Christmas. I'm currently attending school at Western Washington University and have no real income. I do get a refunded check from my financial aid every quarter, but it's all I get for three or so months, and I by the time my books are bought I hardly have enough for groceries. My mother wants to help out, but she's in worse shape than I am.

Basically, I need a lot of dental work down, possibly some orthodontics, too, and I need to find a place that will give good service for a low price. Also, any information on dental insurance plans that would be good for my situation is appreciated. I've looked around, but I'm really hopeless when it comes to all of this. I have no idea what I'm doing.

If you happen to live in Bellingham and have a good, kind dentist (or if you happen to be one), I'd be thrilled if you'd provide the contact information. Even if the services are not cheap, I'd still like to discuss possible payment methods with a reputable dentist. (I'd really prefer a dentist that is highly skilled. As much as I'm desperate right now, the really cheap dentists that do quick fixes or, worse, end up progressng the problems I already have are something I'd rather avoid.)

If you don't live in the area, but you know of some good insurance companies that take pity on currently unemployed, poor college gals, that's great, too!

To be honest, I'm actually really embarassed by the state of my teeth. I'd really like it if anyone who answers refrained from ridiculing me or telling me I brought in upon myself or something like that... Believe me when I tell you I would have gone sooner if I had the chance.

Thank you, and sorry the details of this question have gone for so long!!
I forgot to mention: The receeding of my gums has extended beyond the one tooth, is generally uncomfortable (sometimes painful, but usually just ... uncomfortable), and now some of my teeth are loose. I still brush and floss everyday, and it doesn't seem to be helping. I stay away from sugar, take a multi-vitamin and calcium supplement, and have greatly reduced my coffee and caffeine intake. I'm starting to panic a little bit because it just keeps getting worse, even though I've improved my routine. I'm scared I'll lose a tooth before I actually get to see a dentist.

One use of meth, affecting teeth?

Posted on September 26, 2010

Hi, I recently had a run-in with crystal meth thinking it was E. I rubbed it on my gums all night and had what i believe to be an overdose, very stupid i know, it won't be happening again.
I have good oral health but recently i've noticed whitening of the gum and they feel a little dry and also taste a little irony.
I've always had it a bit and i'm not sure if it's just me being completely ridiculously paranoid (i have anxiety) but could it still be affecting my dental health now? Thanks
Ah it was over a week ago by the way. I've brushed my teeth everyday since.

Bad Breath problem-tried EVERYTHING. proffesionals please come in.?

Posted on September 18, 2010

I have had this problem ever since I was about 10; I am not 14.

I floss regularly, I brush twice a day, i use mouthwash, i brush my tongue and cheeks etc.

I have a very good oral health. I've been seeing my dentist about this for a while now. He says that my oral health is very very good and that I don't have bad breath (he wears a goddamn surgical mask for goodness sake).

This is affecting my life so much. I don't talk very much, i am very very quiet, i breathe through my nose which is causing me to have breathing problems and i speak very fast and quiet because of this.

I have had to constantly chew gum. When I'm not eating, there is gum in my mouth-this is causing me to have extreme laxative effects which isn't too pleasant.

I'm pretty sure I don't have anything wrong with my stomach.

Question about gum disease?

Posted on September 10, 2010

I am 33 years old, and I think I'm losing my teeth.

I brush, floss, and use mouthwash twice a day, every day, religiously, yet my gums look very bad. They are extremely receded and now I am feeling like my teeth are "shifting." I don't understand what's going on. How can someone who is so persistant about good oral health have this problem? Could this be hereditary? I know my family has a lot of tooth issues. My concern is that I don't want to have my teeth pulled. I think I'm way too young for that.

Here's my main question: Are my teeth salvagable even though they are feeling like they are getting loose or shifting? I know implants are outrageously expensive and I don't want teeth I can remove (aka dentures). Any info on teeth and gum issues here would be helpful. Thanks
