Has anyone ever injured their gums and caused recession with an electric toothbrush?

Posted on August 7, 2010

I bought the Oral-B triumph and all of a sudden experienced irritation at my lower front teeth, and gum recession. I switched to Sonicare and it seems gentler and I haven't had any problems. Anyone else have a similar problem with electric toothbrushes?

Brushing and flossing too much bad?

Posted on August 5, 2010

I brush my teeth, clean my tongue, gently floss and rinse my mouth with mouthwash after every meal. This is usually three times a day. I use an electronic toothbrush -- Sonicare. I brush as gently as I can ... actually, the toothbrush itself does the work for me.

However, I am concerned that possibly, me brushing and flossing so often could do more damage than good. Should I cut down? Should I continue what I'm doing? Would there be any gum recession from brushing too much with the Sonicare and flossing too much?

Sonicare toothbrushes and gum recession. ?

Is the Sonicare toothbrush good for gum recession or would a soft bristled manual toothbrush probably work just as well?

It would be better if dental professionals answer this question.

Do you know any toothpaste that doesnt have sodium lauryl sulfate in it?

Posted on July 25, 2010

Sodium lauryl sulfate is an ingredient present in all toothpaste. It seems that is very harmful for our gum and teeth since it is a detergent.. It seems that it is like high fructose corn syrup that is present in so many kind of food and it is the culprit of obseity. Well now it is sodium lauryl sulfate in toothpaste that it seems to be the enemy in the fight against cavities and gum recession.

What could have happened? To my oral health?

Posted on July 22, 2010

So 3 months ago I didn't really care about my oral health to much. I drank all the wrong drinks and ate the wrong foods. I did brush once a day. Had no cavities or any problems. I started to go healthy by eating right and all so i started to brush and floss 2 times a day and use mouthwash. But my gums bled so I figured i had gingivitis. But then one day I was brushing my teeth and I noticed some gum recession on 2 teeth. Every now and then i get a sore tooth but that from the gum disease. Why is it when i didn't care to much I had no problems, but when i do care everything goes awry? Any ideas. I cant see a dentist right now for money and insurance reasons. i am getting all my teeth replaced in a couple years anyway.
I also grew 9 in could this have done anything?

electric shocks in my teeth?

Posted on July 21, 2010

shocks come out of nowhere during day and mainly affect my front top two teeth, but also happen on other teeth in anterior region of my mouth (incisors, even mandibular teeth). it feels like the shocks associated with teeth whitening (i had this done 2 yrs ago...never had a problem since). they happen about 2-5 times every 15 minutes, drinking or eating does not stlimulate shocks. shocks started up in early july. i had 8 small cavities (never had a cavity before) filled in early june. i went to the dentist and she checked condition of my enamel, gum recession, x-rays, and any cavities. she said that everything was fine. on high fluoride toothpaste now for 5 wks. she guesses that shocks are a result of the fact that only my mandibular/maxillary central incisors touch when i bite (i went to the othro and he said that my jaw did infact grow...i may need braces again...he gave me an essix retainer to protect my teeth at night...he is not sure what is wrong either). i'm 19 and sooo scared!!

Does using an electric toothbrush (instead of a regular brush) actually help prevent gum recession?

I just started using the Sonicare toothbrush and wanted to know the effects it has on gum recession. Does it prevent it or does it cause more of it? Any input would be helpful. Thanks!

Tiny holes and rough patches on front teeth?

Posted on July 18, 2010

I have developed some tiny holes and rough spots only on the upper part of my two front teeth. This area is not smooth like it used to be. It looks like tiny chips have come out of the teeth, beginning with very small holes. What is the most likely cause of this? Is it from brushing too hard or using too much toothpaste? I brush 3 times a day with Tom's of Maine. It has no fluoride in it. The rest of my teeth are in good condition, except a tiny bit of gum recession where the metal of my bottom retainers connect. Will the chipping problem continue to get worse? Can a dentist put a little bit of that filling stuff on my teeth to make them smooth again?
My front teeth were smooth before I got the Sonicare electric toothbrush. Can that ruin the enamel?

How should I brush my front top teeth?

Posted on July 11, 2010

One of my front top teeth have a little bit of gum recession going on but it's from me brushing too harshly. I want to keep the area where my tooth meets my gum plaque free but i'm scared to brush around that area because i might push my gums back more. So what would be the best way for me to keep that area clean?

Will tooth-whitening strips hurt if you have a cavity or exposed nerve?

Posted on July 10, 2010

I doubt I have either of those things, as I just had a great check-up. But I've had problems with tooth sensitivity and gum recession in the past. I remember reading years ago that that tooth-whitening stuff that you brush onto your teeth (I'm not sure if they make it anymore) REALLY hurts if you have tooth problems that you don't know about. Is the same true for the whitening strips?
