Braces and Gingivitis?

Posted on December 25, 2010

I am 13 years old.

I've had braces on since October 2008. Ive slowly have gotten bad gums. I recently visited my dentist and he told me i have gingivitis. i'm very scared over this.

I brushed and right after I notice there is still plaque under my braces brackets and they are difficult to get to.

I honestly do brush atleast 3x a day and floss.

Is my braces the cause of my gingivitis? How should I brush with braces on? Can i reverse gingivitis? Should I have my wires removed?

Help please! I'm only 13 and afraid.

Gingivitis question? Dentist opinions would be helpful.?

So I went to my dentist to get a cleaning because my orthodontist I guess wanted me to have one because I'm getting my braces off soon. My dentist said I have gingivitis and recommended me using the GUM soft picks, I think that's what they're called. Anyways, I was wondering when I use them, do I stick it in between all the way, because I kind of just poke at my gums with them because I'm afraid of stabbing my gum by going to far. Also, since I'm getting my braces off soon, is that a bad thing because my gums are kind of red and swollen? (not a lot, a lot, but it's only noticeable when you look directly at my gums,) Or is it a good thing because it's easier to fix the problem without braces? I do take care of my teeth, but I just didn't really floss before that much...I know, that's bad. :( I know I wrote a lot, but I have one last question. I have rubber bands and that won't irritate my gingivitis, will it? Thank you! :)

I have all the symptoms of periodontitis, but my dentist says nothing wrong?

Posted on December 25, 2010

I have been having a problem with my bottom teeth ever since having my daughter, my gums are receding, theres tarter/plaque gathering at the base of the teeth, my teeth look elongated, i taste metal in my mouth, the gums are red and puffy. I did not know what this was until i went to the dentist. I showed her and asked what was wrong, and she said nothing is wrong, theres no bone loss so nothing to worry about.
However I was looking at posters in her office when I saw one on periodontitis (sorry if i spelled it wrong) and it looks exactly like what I have!
I dont like this dentist to begin with and have every intention of getting a second opinion.
But I have all these symptoms on my bottom teeth and im very worried. I'll be going to a dentist next week as this dentist did a surgery on my teeth today and I will not go back to her ever. What can I do for my teeth (i brush, floss and use mouthwash daily), and is she right? what should I do?!
Could this be nothing? they look very different from how they used to. What else could this be?
Thanks everyone

My Breath still stinks after brushing my teeth?

Posted on December 25, 2010

So I brushed my teeth just a half hour ago, and after I put gum in my mouth, and my breath still stinks. Why is that? I don't have gingivitis because my gums are pink and there not tender to touch.

is there anything i can do about gum recession from brushing too hard?

Gingivitis? Inflamed gum from popcorn?

Posted on December 24, 2010

I probably dont brush my teeth as often as I should. When I do I usually get a little bleeding and redness around the base of my teeth. Usually if I start brushing much more often it eventually goes away.

Anyway, I ate some popcorn last night and got a piece stuck in my gum. I got it out with my tongue, but today it feels a bit red, inflamed and tender where the popcorn was. It doesn't hurt that bad, but I am a hypochondriac and worry. Is this gingivitis or a more serious infection?

Do I need to go to the doctor (I have my teeth cleaned regularily and the dentist just mentions that I need to brush more and that is why my gums bleed but has never really mentioned periodontis or anything) or will brushing and using Listerine take care of it on its own? How do you tell the difference between gingivitis and something more serious like an abscess?

Gingivitis…..? Uh…yeah I don't think so?
