Canker sores? Do I have Herpes?

Posted on April 22, 2011

I have three sores in my mouth (Not on lips or outside mouth in any way). One of them is on the top left of my gum, it's quite big and does hurt when irritated. This is a canker sore, I'm sure of it. There is also a little sore on the gum below my bottom front tooth on the right side. It's incredible painful, and doesn't quite feel/taste like the other canker sore. It hurts when touched by anything. There is also another sore the the opposite side of the tooth from the previous one I described. It feels like just a damaged gum from being stabbed by a chip, but I'm not entirely sure.

Could this be herpes in any way at all? I'm a little worried.
I found this on a website:
"Canker sores, also called aphthous ulcers, are small, shallow lesions that develop on the soft tissues in your mouth — under your tongue, inside your cheeks or lips, and at the base of your gums. Unlike cold sores, canker sores don't occur on the surface of your lips and aren't contagious. They can be very painful, however, and can make eating and talking difficult.

Most canker sores go away on their own in a week or two. Check with your doctor or dentist if you have unusually large or painful canker sores or canker sores that don't seem to heal. "

It sounds like I just have canker sores, and not cold sores.

canker sores hurt. why do I have so many?

Posted on April 18, 2011

so i just randomly woke up with pain in my mouth to find many little canker sores starting to form...

I had a sore throat but realized the pain was much too great, that there had to be an ulcer in my throat.

the next day I have more canker sores..

it hurts ALOT. I cannot eat nor drink. I hate to starve myself but it seems thats my only choice.

Help please.

theres canker sores all over my tongue, under my tongue, on both sides of my uvula, and some on my gums.

hurts to talk or open my mouth...

What's causing them to form in my mouth?

My blood was tested negative for any diseases except anemia.

I don't have any STDs.

Canker sores and Viatmin B12?

Posted on April 15, 2011

Has anyone suffered from severe canker sores and then notice a decrease in their occurrence as a result of taking Vitamin B12 injections (my B12 levels were very low).

I used to get them all the time, quite painfully too, sometimes lasting for up to two or three weeks. Sometimes it would start out with one, and before I knew it three or four would show up. Even worse was when they would show up right next to each other and turn into one giant month-long lasting canker sore. I've had days where it was hard to eat, smile, or talk because of these things (which my dentist has assured me were canker sores; I thought they were oral herpes (cold sores) to begin with).

Usually I get them on my gums, on the roof of my mouth, on the insides of my cheeks, or on my tongue.

Has anyone else suffered from them in quite the same way (it would be nice to know I'm not the only one).

What has helped you?

I've found "canker covers" at the drug store, they help to get through a meal.
When I'm talking about B12, I have a deficiency in it... I need to inject it monthly in order to bring my levels up to normal.

I have found a few references on the web suggesting there is a relation between B12 deficiency and canker sores so I guess now I'm wondering if anyone else experiences canker sores similar to those I described.

Canker Sores and gum lines?

Posted on April 14, 2011

So, I know all about my canker sores, i have at least 1 outbreak of 2 or more inside my mouth every month, but this time, two of them show up in relatively the same spot, just in front of my right bottom Canine(i believe that it's dental number is 23). I've noticed that these sores cause my gum line to recede and cause me much pain, but this time around with both in the same spot, my gum line is so far down, i feel as though not to bite anything with that tooth, on fear that it will come out from my gums,

is there anything i can do to help massage my gum line back up while i have canker sores? i already sue a soft toothbrush and use sensitive teeth toothpaste(that's more for my teeth though).

Also if you have canker sores, what do you use to quell the pain? i use a mixture of an OTC canker sore painkiller that is like a paste that you fill the crevice with, and Campho phenique, the paste lasts a long time but doesn't take effect immediately, but the campho kills the pain in about 4 seconds.

Tartar growth very rapid and peridontitis worsened. What can I do?

Posted on April 13, 2011

Is little bone loss supposed to be the first stage of peridontitis? If so what can be done to control further bone loss? one dentist told me i'm at the start of periodontitis and performed root planing and scaling. He told me some pockets are as deep as 6 mm. I was having gum pain which caused tooth sensitivity and pain. The root planing and scaling procedure brought me tremendous relief to my gums. But one month later I am again having same problems of gum pain and teeth sensitivity. My gums are inflamed and i notice lot of tartar has grown on my teeth. With the growth of tartar, i experience lot of gum pain and inflammation. I am very frustrated because despite brushing twice a day, flossing thrice a day and using mouthwash i continue to have tartar growth at rapid pace. I can't do more than brushing twice and flossing thrice and using mouthwash twice. The root planing and scaling made my teeth tartar free and plaque free and all the toxins in pockets were removed. But in one month time it returned back. Why?

Are these canker sores or something more serious?

Posted on April 12, 2011

Hello,

About a week ago I had one canker sore on my bottom lip, then it was just about cleared up and I got another one right next to it. I have had canker sores in the past and they've come and go with no problem. But shortly after my second canker sore, my mouth was feeling sore in certain places. It seems as though I have canker sores on the bottom of my front lip where my cheek meets my gums and on my top lip where my cheek meets my gums as well but on the sides. Also, I believe I have them in the back of my mouth on both sides of my tongue. I also feel something when I swallow on the right side. Its been 4 days since they all really formed and they are very bothersome right now. My tongue feels as it does if I had burned it on something. It hurts towards the back not at the tip. I have been putting Alum on the canker sores, I just started doing that today and they seem to have really come to a head and I can see all of them very clear now. Are all of these really canker sores or is this something more serious? Here are some pictures I took...

Thanks, Dan
I have been eating a ton of peanut butter sandwiches and I use a lot of peanut butter and I have also been drinking a ton of Minute maid berry punch. I assumed the acid from the drink and the peanut butter sparked this to happen?

Gum irritation from Canker sores?

Posted on April 8, 2011

Ok, background: a week ago I had a flu like symptoms- fever, body aches, sore throat bla bla bla. Fever went away after 24hrs along with body aches, sore throat did not. Dr said no strep, just a severe sore throat.(started warm salt water 3+ times a day as soon as sore throat presented itself.)
The next day I see/feel a canker sore starting to build, then by the end of the day I see 4. By morning I see multiple on my tongue and inner mouth starting to build up ( I have never had more than one at a time in my lifetime- i'm 41) About the this time, my gums around my teeth ( which I have no issues) start to get real sore, including the roof of my mouth is tender/swollen too. The next morning, I have multiple full blown canker sores, my gums hurt when I brush my teeth so much that it was almost impossible to brush. I am still doing the warm salt water, and have added hydrogen peroxide to my routine. It's been almost a week, some of the canker sores are starting to disapate, some are not, and the gums although better are still sore to brush. A few questions:
- Is it common for the gums and roof of the mouth to get that tender from canker sores?
- why would the gums get inflamed from canker sores that are on the tongue, inner lip, and cheek?
- will to much hydrogen peroxide rinsing cause this gum irritation? ( I know it's a stretch...)
- Once the canker sores are gone, will the gumm irritation go away too?

I appreciate anyone's input, especially if this has happened to you.
And yes, I know I should go to my dentist, but I'm on the road working til Christmas. So if that is your answer, thanks, but I understand that..... thank you all again.

Canker Sores Treatment help?

Posted on April 8, 2011

Got a somewhat big canker sore on the gums beneath my front teeth. I know rising with salt water helps. But instead, I have decided to apply salt directly onto the canker sore to let it burn for a while every night (Yes, it stings but to me, the pain isn't that bad). Would that actually speed up the healing process? Or is that actually in turn bad for it? Should I go back to rinsing with salt water instead?

Sore, swollen spot on hard palate right behind front teeth – what could it be?

Posted on April 7, 2011

Hi!

I have a single spot right behind my right upper front tooth that swells up regularly. It's basically one of the rugae at the front of my hard palate. (The rugae, as far as I know, are the ridges behind the upper front teeth that cover the hard palate).

It keeps swelling up, and sometimes it gets pretty sore. It usually stays that way for 3-7 days, goes away for about a week, and then comes back again. Normally, I cannot feel or detect the rugae with my tongue, but when this one is swollen, I can definitely feel it. My girlfriend also seems to recognize if it is swollen or not. Personally, I cannot see it (with a mirror) but can definitely feel it.

This has been going on for about 6 months now.

I first thought it was gingivitis caused by plaque, but I then went to a dental hygienist and got my teeth cleaned professionally - which I initially thought had fixed it, but it came back about a week or two later.

The strange thing is that I can brush the spot with a toothbrush or touch it with my finger, and it doesn't seem that sensitive at all, but I constantly feel it even when I try not to concentrate on it. Eating or cold drinks make it feel better for a very short period. Smoking, as you can imagine, aggravates it, which is why I have cut down considerably. Drinking warm (not hot) tea also aggravates it sometimes. I drink alcohol extremely rarely.

I've tried so many different things, and I'm starting to feel really frustrated by it. I also bought a protective mouth gel that seemed to help at the start, but it's not so effective any more.

A few weeks ago, I went to the dentist, who couldn't find anything unusual, even said my gums looked very healthy. She thought I could have "burning mouth syndrome" and prescribed me vitamin B supplements. I've been taken those now for about 3 weeks.

My "symptom" has come back once since then, and it was actually fairly painful. Usually, it's not really that painful, just extremely annoying, and the fact that it's been going for so long now is really starting to get me down. It stayed for about 4 days and went again, but now it's back. At the moment, it's irritated and swollen, but not sore (yet).

I have another dentist appointment soon. Not sure how that's going to go, but in the meantime, any advice, tips or suggestions would be much appreciated.

I know this is a long one, so, thanks for reading!
