Boyfriend's breath is so bad…becoming unattracted to him?
My bf has bad breath do to tartar and plaque build up on his front bottom teeth. It looks really gross and it smells really bad. He works overnight shift so he goes the whole day w/o brushing and brushes only b4 work, which makes it worse. I go to the dentist regularly and encourage him to do the same. I have told him many times to brush his teeth 2 or more times a day, mouthwash and floss! He will do none of the above.
He bought a small bottle of Listerine last month and hasn’t opened it yet! I have offered mints and gum on numerous occasions and even told him if it’s the cost of the dental care that he is concerned with I’ll even help pay! We have been dating for a while so we very open with each other. I can’t even enjoy having a face to face conv. w/ him cuz of the breath. All of this is making me to unattracted to him. I’m out of options. I don’t want to leave him cuz of his breath but if I am turned off by s/one I know the relationship will not last. Help!
Do they clean your plaque off your teeth after you get your braces off?
I have a little plaque build-up behind my two front lower teeth in the center, and there's some "cement" on my lower molars, and my teeth aren't yellow but they aren't freakishly white either, so I guess my brightness is on a average level, but when they do take your braces off, do they clean up your teeth from all the plaque and whiten them? I'm asking this because my friend had braces since sixth grade (is in eight now) and he had terrible, terrible cement all around his brackets from not brushing his teeth, and when he got them off, they were squeaky clean!!! My dentist hasn't said anything about my plaque yet, but they just said to continue brushing my teeth better, and I have, but the plaque doesn't go away like that. So, will they really clean up my teeth??
Gums receding, how far is too far?
I've noticed I've got gum recession mostly on the left side of my mouth, upper jaw. I'm surprised my dentist hasn't noticed/said anything, but I'm seeing him tomorrow for a deep cleaning anyway, so hopefully he'l notice.
What I'd like to ask, is could flossing have caused this gum recession? Also how far is too far for the gums to recede? By comparison to the right side of my mouth (where gum recession seems minimal at best), the difference in gum height is about 2-3mm.
Is that so bad that my teeth could be nearing the falling out phase? The gums do hurt to floss, so im going to stop that for a while. Oh and one of the teeth has a little lump near the roots, is it plaque or part of the tooths root structure?
God I hope i don't lose my teeth, only bloody twenty years old! Dentures at my age!
What happens if you dont brush your teeth for 4+ years?
I went to the dentist the other day and he said theres a bit of plaque ill just clean that off and he did....
anyway, i didn't tell him i havn't brushed/flossed/mouthwashed in 4-5 years or so... so what could happen to my teeth due to me not brushing. Oh and my breath never smells bad and my teeth are perfectly white and look normal. My girlfriend didn't notice til i told her and she doesnt particularly care because not brushing hasn't made my teeth yuck or my breath bad. So yeah what could happen to me due to me not brushing
could my diet affect my teeths health....the main foods i eat are lettuce, fish, pepsi max, cucumber and the rest is totally random
but they are the main things
Is it possible I have gum disease that the dentist missed on examination?
I hadn't been to the dentist for 12 years. I am 23 years old. I went today for a check-up because I had no other choice; over a month ago I was eating some chips and my back tooth upper right cracked. It hasn't caused me any pain, but the experience freaked me out because I was afraid my other teeth would start cracking as well.
To my shock and surprise, the hygienist and dentist said that my gums and teeth look great! I have 6 cavities which is a lot but not surprising given I haven't been to the dentist for 12 years. In addition, I need to have a crown--probably no root canal will be needed, so that makes me pretty happy! After I get the cavities filled and my crown, I intend to get some sort of orthodontic work done--braces or invisalign, I'm considering both but leaning more toward braces.
I had a set of comprehensive x-rays taken (18 total I think), and had a regular cleaning and some fluroide applied to my teeth. I thought for sure I had severe periodontal disease; I looked it up on the internet and scared myself into thinking I'd need all my teeth pulled and would have to get dentures! When the hygienist did the periodontal probing, the numbers that were called out were in the 1-3 range (mostly 3's), along with a few 4's which they said are nothing to worry about.
The reason I thought I had periodontal disease is because my teeth are loose. Not majorly loose; I can eat everything I want just fine and the teeth don't feel loose when I eat. However, when I apply pressure to my teeth with my fingers, moving them back and forth, I can feel slight movement. I was too afraid to bring this up to the dentist. Is it possible that they might have missed something? I mean, the periodontal probing was good, I didn't bleed much during the cleaning (just a little blood, but what can you expect after being away so long?), and the dentist had the x-rays in front of her when she was examining me so if there was an obvious problem, she would have brought it up, right? Besides, my teeth have been loose for a long time, I think I first noticed it about 7 years ago so if it was periodontal disease, they would have fallen out or gotten really loose, right?
I'm going to bring this up with my dentist when I return in 2 weeks. I'm just very embarrassed and afraid that they will realize, whoops, we overlooked something and then find out I do have gum disease. Is that possible? I wasn't very good at taking care of my teeth when I was younger, I rarely brushed them (I hate to admit this!), but in my late teenage years I did start taking better care of them, especially after I read about periodontal disease and thought for sure I had it and would need to have my teeth taken out! I have to admit though that my dental hygiene is not that great--I told the hygienist I brush twice a day when in reality I brush once at night before I go to bed but I usually do a pretty thorough job--it takes 5 minutes or so. I intend on brushing twice a day and flossing at least every other night for now on. I'm convinced that oral health is largely based on genetics and I think I lucked out as far as that goes.
Anyway, my main concern is the loose teeth. I came in thinking I was worst-case scenario, so I did ask the hygienist if it was possible that I could have gum disease that the probing wouldn't pick up. She said that worst-case was I could have so much tartar that the probe wouldn't be able to fully penetrate the gums but given that I had no visible tartar on my teeth, that was highly unlikely.
Maybe I'm just worrying too much. After all, I have all of my teeth--28 plus 1 wisdom tooth for a grand total of 29.
Just to clarify--I do NOT have any gingivitis.
My BF Doesn't Really Brush His Teeth…?
So I've been with my boyfriend for about six months now and I know he has some issues with brushing his teeth. He has braces, so it's not hard at all to tell if he's been slacking.
One day when I kind of mentioned something about it, he was like, "Gosh, I brushed my teeth this morning, I don't know why they get plaque so fast."
It's just nasty kissing him when I know he hasn't brushed in a few days. What is a good way to tell him to brush, without hurting his feelings? He's a pretty sensitive guy.
