What are the health benefits of taking yoga?

Posted on March 4, 2011

Whenever I do yoga, my joints seem to get a little achy. And I'm not old, I'm not even 20. Is it because I'm locking my elbows and knees too much? Also, I'd like to know some of the health benefits of doing yoga regularly. Is it true that it helps your body get rid of toxins?

Thanks!

back pain?

Posted on December 21, 2010

i have had some back pain for a couple of weeks now. i am 15 years old, and for a long time i have been cracking my joints (back & neck mostly, sometimes my knuckles). about 3-4 weeks ago i started to feel a pain in my lower back, mostly on the left side. it feels like sore muscles, but when i had someone massage it, the pain didnt go away, and the massage didnt help at all. that pain went away, only a little. but now there is a pain in my upper back. i used to get this pain when i was younger, but i was always able to crack my back or neck to get the pain to go away. also, when i go to feel two vertebrae on my back, there is a very large gap in between them. is this bad? another pain i am feeling is in the middle of my back, where the big gap between my vertebrae is. its more uncompfortable than it is painful. is this bad? is it because i have been cracking my joints for so long? is it bad to crack your neck and back? is it bad to crack your knuckles? help!!!!!!

What's the difference between chronic back pain and sciatica?

Posted on December 2, 2010

I have been experiencing strong and consistent back pain for as long as I can remember (I am 25 now). It starts with a little discomfort in my lower back, and about 20 minutes later, if I don't take pain medication, my joints will start to ache on one side (my hip, my knee, my ankle). X-rays show some minor scoliosis and a compressed disc (L4 and L5). So far, orthopedic surgeons are reluctant to do anything or even take me seriously because I'm "not old enough to be in a lot of pain."

My question is, could this be something more than a compressed disc? I've heard mention of sciatica but I have no idea what that is. I can usually catch it before it gets too bad, but it takes about 4 pills a day (Excedrin, Advil, etc) and I don't think that's a good long term answer.

And, one last question - what can I say to the doctor to get him to take me seriously?
