No insurance, have health problems, need specialty visits… what should I do?

Posted on September 14, 2011

3 wks ago I started getting mentrual-like cramps that was targeted mainly on my left side. After about 2 wks of that I went to the Health Center at the college I go to and saw a Physician. She did a pelvic exam and I had some blood work done. Now after 2 1/2 wks of cramping the pain turned into general pelvic pain, the pain doesn't feel like cramping anymore... it's worse! So I went back to the Health Center she says that all the tests she did on me came out normal and so she doesn't know what else she can do for me but suggest that I go to a Gynecologist. My problem is that I don't have any health insurance, the only thing I have is Family Pact & it might cover another pelvic exam by the Gyn but nothing else. I might have to have an ultrasound done & would have to pay that cash. So far the cheapest Gyn I've been able to find is 0 for consult (might not have to pay that b/c I have Family Pact) & 0 for an ultrasound. Should I just apply for health insurance now (4/mo + cpay)
or should I just try to find the cheapest way out of this? What I'm worried about is that I might have something serious and go through surgery or something and I'm sure surgery procedures won't be too cheap if I'm paying cash. Also, what if I need medication...
Also I heard that if I get insurance after seeing someone for this, if my insurance finds out then the insurance would charge me for it. Is that true?

How long does it take for someone who is diagnosed with type II diabetes to begin experiencing nerve problems?

Posted on September 13, 2011

I've only been diagnosed since this past April and I am already experiencing numbness and pain in my feet and my vision is getting blurry. Does this mean that I've had the illness for some time and didn't know it? Should I be taking insulin or medication with these symptoms rather than relying on diet and exercise?

Also, I have depression that doesn't respond to treatment with anti-depressants for very long. Could the diabetes be causing this? Would medication or insulin help stop the depression?

What happens if someone takes the wrong does of Insulin for diabetes?

Posted on September 5, 2011

If someone had diabetes and were unable to get to their own insulin and (unwisely) took someone else's medication, what would happen if a) the dose was too strong b) the dose was too little?

P.S. this is research for a fictional story and hasn't actually happened!

ADHD Mental health center or pediatrician??

Posted on August 31, 2011

My son is 5. He was diagnosed with ADHD. His doctor has tried 2 different drugs on him, and he has had little side effects on the last drug. She is going by what the teacher is saying on the forms. She took him off the meds all together. His teacher says he cant do his work without help from medication.I was wondering if a mental health center can monitor him bettter on medication than his pediatrician.
My sons teacher is wonderful. We talk at least once a week about how my son is doing. When he was on Aderall she let me know how he was acting"zombie like" and she didnt like that at all, so thats when the dr. lowered the doseage.
i'll see about the patch. Im not leaving his dr. all together,Just with the ADHD thing.

How long do people live after their kidneys start to give out from having type 1 diabetes?

Posted on August 22, 2011

My father developed Type 1 diabetes about 7 yrs ago due to alcoholism. Now his kidneys are not functioning well even with medication. I am trying to decide if I need to move back to Georgia from Wisconsin depending on how much time he has to live. I want to spend good quality time with him, not sick and suffering time only.
