Tooth and Gum Problems?
Lately I've had a lot of problems with my teeth. I went to the orthodontist for the first time about six or seven months ago and she discovered that I had really bad enamel erosion. My orthodontist thought I was bulimic but I'm not, and I don't have acid reflux so I don't know whats causing that problem. Then last month I went to the dentist and one of my teeth had turned gray and I have to have a root canal. My dentist said it could be because I hit my tooth on something but I have no reccollection of doing that. And now, just yesterday, I discovered two black spots on my gums. One is right on the base of my gum and tooth, and the other is on the inside of my gums. I looked it up, and it said it could be an amalgam tattoo, but the only metal I have in my mouth are my braces, and I think I have one filling on my top teeth. So my question is, what is going on with my teeth?
Will whitening strips make a slight acid erosion worse?! help!!?
just got my braces off and my two front teeth have a slight whiter area where the brackets were.... will whitening strips take this away or make it worse?! is there anything i can do to make it go away?! help!! i took very good care of my braces while i had them so this is really annoying! my orthodontist even said i was one of his favorites because he never had to be concerned about me! ahhhhh!!
Can white spots on teeth be reversed? Can they be prevented from turning into cavities?
I've had some white spots on my teeth (that my dentist has made me aware of) for about two weeks now. I have three small white spots, but one of them has become sensitive to anything cold or carbonated beverages. I'm due to have my braces off in a few months after having them for two years, and this is the first time I've had any problems. My dentist didn't jump to give me fillings, and wanted to wait on x-rays until I was out of braces. However, I was told by my orthodontist that to correct the problem, I will need to have some brackets temporarily removed so that my dentist can give me fillings.
I have been using MI paste provided by my dentist and have been rinsing my mouth out with fluoride-enhanced mouthwash in the hopes of trying to save my teeth and re-calcify them (I'm assuming that the one tooth that has become sensitive has lost its enamel; I don't remember if that's what the orthodontist said). But, at this point, my orthodontist and my dentist are planning to give me fillings in the coming weeks (eek).
Not really wanting to opt for fillings just yet, I've been doing some research on trying to fix the white spots, and am unsure as to why I need fillings if, by definition, they are not cavities yet. I am stepping up my brushing and cleaning habits, and I've started cutting a large amount of food and drink out of my diet, mainly sugars and carbonated beverages - things that are most likely to damage my teeth further. I've also gargled with hot salt-water about once a week in the hopes that it will pull bacteria away from the teeth and prevent further breakdown.
Is there anything I can do to try to save the teeth with white spots, preventing them from turning into cavities? Is there anything I can do to actually restore the enamel on my teeth?
I'm not afraid of getting a filling, as I've had one before, but I hate the idea of just giving up and letting the dentist grind down parts of my teeth and filling it with a synthetic paste. If there's anything I can do to avoid this (besides letting my teeth deteriorate, which I'm not to keen on), please let me know.
How to make "fang" teeth look better?
You know how some people have sharp teeth (not really sharp, just a little sharper/pointier than normal) and some call them "fang" teeth? Well, I'm one of those people with the "fang" teeth and sometimes it kinda embarrasses me! Is there anything I can do that would make them look better? Or maybe some makeup would help? If I bought a lip plumper would that draw attention away from them, or would plump lips cover the teeth more when I smile? Or something?! Help!!!
*By the way, my orthodontist says my "fang" teeth are common (which I think is BS lol) and I don't need braces and shouldn't be concerned.... But I am!
Braces Help? Any suggestions are very appreciated.?
I've had braces since November 2010, & I'm very conscious about them and I have a few questions... Any & all answers are greatly appreciated.
1) How do I get really white teeth while having braces? I went to get my normal cleaning from my dentist, & she said I was doing the best job cleaning around the brackets that she's seen in a while. But even though mom said my brackets were shiny & my teeth were whiter, I didn't think they looked any better. I'm very self conscious about the color of them & I feel they could be whiter...
2) Do I HAVE to use the fluoride toothpaste stuff my orthodontist gave me? It says I have to brush my teeth for EXACTLY a minute, & I can't eat, drink, swallow, or spit it out for 30 minutes, then I have to rinse it off. Is there any alternative I can use? Because I use it, but I feel it takes way to much time & if there's an alternative that's just as good, I'd be more than happy to use it.
3) I'm paranoid about having white spots after I get them taken off, is there anyway to prevent that from happening?
I know this is somewhat lengthy, & I want to thank everyone who took there time to read this & help me.
BRACES with BABY TEETH?? good idea.. or no?
