Am I developing gingivitis? PLEEZE HELP!!! IM AFRAID!!?

Posted on January 15, 2011

I feel really bad that I've barely flossed my teeth in the entire time I've had braces. So far though, the orthodontists say I'm doing a great job and making great progress. Only now and then do they say I have to improve with my brushing. Then I recently went to the dentists and they told me I have to watch out for gingivitis! They said my gums were slightly enflamed and they started bleeding when the hygienist was cleaning! Should I be worried? I REALLY don't want surgery and I was told they burn off your excess skin on your gums. Is it too late for me??? What should I do???

Do I take a toothbrush to the orthodontist (when i am getting my braces off)?

Posted on January 6, 2011

I have heard several people talking about brushing their teeth at the orthodontists (on the day they get their braces off). So that day is on Friday, and i'm wondering, do i have to bring my own toothbrush? Or do I have to bring a toothbrush at all?

Thanks
xx

Braces

Posted on September 5, 2010

If you're not interested, please don't watch. Haha. Wow, now that I watch this again, I feel like I'm not explaining things right. I'll just type everything out. Before braces, they take pictures of your teeth, and they stretch your mouth out a lot. It hurts. Then they take impressions, my mixing these weird ingredients together to make this kind of jello / yogurt stuff, and they put it into a tray and push it into your teeth, so they can make molds of your teeth, and so they can analyze them better. Also, you get spacers, these little tiny rubber bands that they put in in between all of your back teeth. It hurts, because your teeth start moving. They do this because when they put your braces on, the metal will be placed around your back teeth, so the orthodontists need to make space. When you get your braces on, they put glue onto your teeth, and place the bracket in place. They do this for every tooth, then connect them all with a wire. It's kind of an uncomfortable procedure because your tongue gets in the way a lot. If you have an over bite, they might make you wear these long metal brackets on the back of your two front teeth, so that you get used to biting farther out, and you wont bite down on any other bracket or make it crack off. You get elastics eventually, which are these rubber bands that you have to hook on to your brackets. These correct your bite. How much you wear them will determine how long you have your braces on. If you wear them as much as they tell ...

Why didn't they recommend a crown & retainer in the first place?

Posted on August 3, 2010

I had braces many years ago and had nice teeth. About 4 years after having them removed, my wisdom teeth came in and pushed some back together and they are very crooked again – however it’s only about 3 teeth total that are not aligned.

I recently began seeing a new dentist. He put a crown on one front tooth (it was very discolored from fluoride and misshaped as well) and then he is using a clear retainer to move the really crooked one in front in to the right place. He left a little gap in between them when he did the crown so that the crooked one will have room to move in to place.

This is going to cost me much less money that having braces on again and it will take much less time (a month) for the tooth to move, PLUS I don’t have to wear those ugly metal things on my teeth AT ALL… and then we can put a veneer on the last tooth. My question is, why don’t more dentist/orthodontists go this route if they only have a couple of teeth unaligned? I have had several dentists recommend that I get braces again (not happening, I am too old & I’ve already worn them once & hated them) but since this route is so much quicker and cheaper, why didn’t they recommend this in the first place?
