How did the stay-at-home mother clean her teeth for just under $10 for real? (no spam, please)?

Posted on October 10, 2010

I don't want to click the link because I'm pretty sure several dozen worms and cookies linger in the flashing ads. However, I am very curious. Is there really a way to whiten your teeth for under in the time they advertise? They say some woman on CNN advertises it.

I doubt it, but I have genetic dental problems. I floss every night and brush after meals and drinking sodas and yet I still have plaque buildup. (I know! It's completely unfair!)

If it's a hoax, like the winning a free iPod because you're the ten-thousandth visitor or whatever then just tell me. I just thought it was worth asking.

She has poor personal hygiene?

Posted on October 3, 2010

My roommate is 18, and she does not like to brush her teeth. A few weeks ago we were talking about brushing our teeth, and she mentioned that she hated brushing her teeth because it made her gag. I however, have excellent oral hygiene. Since then, I've noticed that her teeth are getting really dirty looking. I mean, her teeth have a plaque buildup and she's got dark spots between her teeth which look to me like they could be cavities, but they could very well be bits of food too. The teeth to the right and left of her two front teeth are grey in colour, whereas a few weeks ago they just looked slightly stained. And her breath stinks...horribly. I wanted to mention to her that she needs to brush her teeth more often, as in at least twice a day. However, I don't get a chance to! At first I thought maybe it was just her teeth (teeth can vary in colour too), but when I tidied up the bathroom last Friday, I put her toothbrush in a certain location and position in our caddy, and it hasn't moved since...yikes! What should I say?
Keep in mind she says she has a strong gag reflex!
Also, she only washes her hair once a week, but she gets really bad dandruff. Her hair is often greasy and smelly by the third day of not washing. How can I get her to wash her hair more often without making her feel bad?

What are these black spots in my teeth?

Posted on September 20, 2010

I went to the dentist last year and havent been back since. I know that last time i went in, he told me that they were not cavities.. they were either Tartar buildup or Plaque buildup (i cant remember which). I was wondering about this one tooth, it looks like there is a big buildup of whatever it is and im worried that it may turn to absess like my other one did last year. Is it possible that even though this looks like a black whole in my tooth, my eyes could just be playing games with me because it is so black? I just hope that it doesnt bother me around the holidays. That would turn out the same way as last year. I guess i will eventually learn my lesson and go to a dentist to prevent this. I am terrified of the dentist but my teeth are not rotted either. Please let me know what you think. Thanks :)

Do I have acid saliva?

Posted on September 9, 2010

I'm 25 years old. I only brush my teeth once a day and never use floss. At my 6 month checkups, when they clean my teeth, there is no plaque buildup, I've never had a cavity or any problems with my teeth and gums. How can this be?

Swollen gum localized in one area – what could this be a symptom of?

Posted on September 8, 2010

The gum in between my first molar and second premolar (second and third teeth from the back on the top right) as well as the front gum above my second premolar (third tooth) are slightly swollen and at times a little painful. I don't think I have a gum abscess as I don't see or feel any bumps along the gum line. The pain is worst in the morning, right after I wake up. The tooth itself isn't in pain, just slightly sensitive but only when I bite down. I get the feeling that any pain in the tooth radiates from the gum. Not sensitive to hold/cold.

This went on for about a week then was fine for two days. Then the slight swelling/pain reappeared two days ago. I went to see the dentist, and she said there were no cavities or major problems with the gum. She felt the irritation was just plaque buildup and told me to continue brushing, flossing, using Listerine.

Should I be concerned that this could be more serious than just plaque? I just had my teeth cleaned a month and a half ago and have them cleaned every 6-7 mo. I also brush 2-3x/daily, floss daily and use mouthwash 2x/daily. I would think any buildup would not be that bad considering this...

Does this sound like something more serious - like an infection or abscess? I guess it might be nothing as the dentist said, but I am just concerned as the swelling/pain has lasted almost two weeks now, and I would think if it was just plaque and I was practicing good oral hygiene, the swelling/pain would be gone by now? Thanks

Should I Be Whitening My Teeth?

Posted on September 5, 2010

I heard a lot about teeth with braces. Like i know it generally does bad things, and that you should wait to get them taken off before bleaching or whitening them. But like for a while I didn't brush my teeth[i know disgusting] and i got a plaque buildup, and now I do brush my teeth constantly. But i have like the stains from where the plaque used to be. Before I had braces I had extremely white teeth, but i was wondering if i do end up waiting for my braces to be taken off, couldn't whitening still mess it up? like i was just wondering if in my circumstances if it's okay to whiten my teeth?

Thank Youuu.

Added reminder, i do NOT continue my sick habit of not brushing my teeth. gahh ew. i brush them every single day twice.

Front teeth chipped. Filling/crown?

Posted on September 3, 2010

So one of my front teeth(bottom) chipped about 1/4 of the back of it.I know I probably have to get a root canal on that one because I had some plaque buildup covering it acting as that part of the tooth. but I can put my fingernail under the other front teeth. Is this normal? or are those wearing away too? If so, can those just be filled? or do they have to have crowns(and possibly root canal) too? It's all at the gum line.

Gap between 2 lower front teeth?

Posted on August 31, 2010

I went to the dentist today to have my teeth cleaned. I guess there was a fair amount of plaque buildup behind my lower front teeth that now I have a small gap in between them. I've never noticed a gap on my front two teeth until now and was wondering if all the scraping/cleaning that is done around the gum caused me to have a gap? I'm hoping that it goes away because I really hate having gaps in teeth. My upper front teeth have no gaps at all which is strange why I would have a gap in my lower front teeth.

With all the abuse done to our teeth, why do celebrities still manage to get their 'pearly whites' while I…?

still have to live with stains, gunk, plaque buildup, and all sorts of problems--even though I brush my teeth on a daily basis?
