What can I do to fix my swollen gums?

Posted on March 18, 2011

I'm pretty sure it's not gingivitis - I think I cut the back of my upper gums when I was eating chips, because it started swelling a little then, and then I put my retainer on and in the morning woke up with an indented cut where the swelling grew! =\ It's been swollen and painful for a few days now, to the point I can't eat certain foods. Anything I can do to speed the recovery?

How can I wear vampire fangs with a retainer?

Posted on March 12, 2011

I always have my retainer on, but for two reasons. One, I have to, and two, I'm missing two teeth and they're on the retainer. How am I supposed to wear fangs if the retainer gets in the way? Is there a way to have both on without ruining the other?

gingivitis? help please?

Posted on March 9, 2011

For the past 3 days my gums have been super sore, red, swollen, and bleed like crazy when I floss and brush my teeth. I have a bottom retainer on the back of the teeth and it makes it really hard to floss. I also go to college in a tiny town with no dentist, next week is Thanksgiving break and the only time I can go to the dentist. Will my gums be okay for the week I have left? How can I treat it myself?

I've been drinking lots of green tea; drinking lots of water when I eat; and I brush, floss, and rinse with mouthwash at least 2 times a day

there's a lump above my tooth, is it an infection or gingivitis?

Posted on February 11, 2011

my teeth/gums just started hurting earlier this week. i have had this lump on my gums above a tooth i had a filling put on a few years ago for at least a year. my dentist told me a couple months ago that i have early stages of gingivitis but i don't have any symptoms so i am wondering if the pain i have is because of that one tooth. i've been using listerine mouthwash and rinsing with salt water for the pain but it doesn't seem to be working. at my last visit my dentist didn't want to pull it yet because they are fitting me for a partial retainer. will urgent care prescribe antibiotics for it or do i need to have it pulled by the dentist?

Has anyone used Invisalign to straighten their teeth?

Has anyone used Invialign? Were you happy with your results? Any cons? I had braces as a kid and of course I did not wear my retainer now I have had some movement. At this point my smile goal is esthetic.

I have a plastic retainer, can I use it for teeth whitening?

Posted on January 28, 2011

I had braces for a while and afterwards they gave me a retainer that was a hard plastic mold. I want to whiten my teeth but going to the dentist is wayyy too expensive. At amazon.com they have the same 15-35% gel filled syringes that the dentists give you. I was wondering if using my retainer would work as well as a mold, and not harm my teeth or the retainer?

What should I do If I have a canker sore near a pierced lip?

Posted on January 24, 2011

I have had my lip pierced for over a year and recently I have been getting canker sores on the inside of my lip near the plate of my retainer that I have to wear for work . It's not directly on the piercing but somewhat close. It usually occurs when I wake up and sometimes after I eat food. It doesn't happen every day, maybe once a week or every few weeks. What am I doing wrong? Anything I can do to prevent the canker sores or should I just remove the piercing?

Why do I have decalcification?

Posted on January 23, 2011

My dentists told me my teeth are decalcified and to use a fluoride rinse. When I search the internet it says that it's caused by plaque buildup on the teeth. I cannot imagine why I would have this condition. I've always brushed and flossed, and I never had braces or a retainer. Could it be caused by something else? It looks like white streaks on my teeth, and it's not as bad as the pictures I've seen.
