How much salt by how much water do I need to rinse my gums with?

I was told to floss at least once a day and also to use salt water to rinse my mouth and gums with as the salt would help kill bacteria at the gumline. I wasn't told however, how much salt and water I needed. Any help would be appreciated.
Also, if my gums are bleeding a little bit while flossing. Is that bad? Does it mean I have really unhealthy gums?
What is the best way to get rid of canker sores?

I have a canker sore, and i know people say salt and water and wash it around your mouth, but is there anything else i should try?
