Toothpaste causing canker sores?
I tried a new toothpaste last night and today I got a canker sore, my first in three months. I discovered that the new paste, unlike the old, contains Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, which I thought I read somewhere could be an irritant. Is it possible for this new toothpaste to have a reaction that quickly, or is it just a coincidence?
I think I have gingivitis (or even worse)…?
About four years ago I visited the dentist and had my last cleaning (I've been 95% cavity-free all my life), but had to return to see a hygenist and get my gums "scraped" (great fun that was). I went back to school for three years and now am having problems again. My gums bleed ALL the time, especially when I brush or floss (I brish often but, admittedly, have slacked off on the flossing the last couple of years). In addition, I have "old man" breath and it's getting to be embarrassing since I work in customer service. I will be getting dental insurance in about three months and want to wait to see the dentist until then. In the meantime, there are small white puffy patches above my two front teeth. The best temporary solution I can find is rinsing with hydrogen peroxide, but that's only temporary. What can I do in the meantime until I'm eligible for dental insurance?
gingivitis in one area of mouth.?
ok, a little spot of my gums in the corner of a baby tooth is sensitive and bleeds everytime i brush it. i was wondering if this could possibly be gingivitis, and if it could spread, and what i can do at home to get rid of it. i cant go to the dentist for another three months becuase of something i dont feel comfortable talking about right now. anyways' dentist is not an option. any home remidies?
Can Excess Tartar Be Hereditary?
My husband's dentist has told him that his excessive development of tartar can be hereditary. I thought tartar came from plaque that was not removed from the teeth on a regular basis. He's recommended that he come for a professional cleaning each three months instead of the normal 6 month time frame. Is this really hereditary or is he just not brushing like a big boy?
question about periodontitis and deep cleaning?
about three months ago, my dentist suggested that i needed a deep cleaning due to early stages of periodontitis. shortly thereafter, i ended up switching dentists due to other problems i had with this dental office, separate from this visit. i switched back to a dentist that i had previously been to. there was a one month lapse between the two visits, in which time i became religious with flossing and mouthwash. previously, i only flossed occasionally.
at my dentist's visit, she did not see the need for a deep cleaning and proceeded with just a regular one. all was great, until a month ago when i started experiencing some on and off gum swelling. nothing has changed during this time except i started using listerine instead of closys (the mouthwash i had been using) b/c i ran out of the closys.
since the swelling wasn't going away, i went back to the dentist. she ruled out any infections and said it was probably just plaque buildup or some food stuck in the gums. i asked if i needed a deep cleaning, and she said no.
my question is, could i really need a deep cleaning? i don't think my dentist ever probed each tooth to measure pockets. if i've been flossing regularly for three months, is it possible it'll still bleed if she probes? i am just concerned that the gum swelling has lasted this long, although with no bleeding. it is not horrible pain but on and off for a month... some times worse than others.
should i go back to the dentist and ask for a thorough periodontal probing? should i go to another dentist for a 2nd opinion?
