How can I remove this mask?

Posted on March 29, 2011

I went to a convention yesterday and was cosplaying as Spider-Man (the black costume). I arrived there in the morning and came home in the evening. After coming home, I tried to remove my mask for the first time and found it was stuck! The elastic string that adjust the mask on the base of my neck became too tight and I can not get it past my chin anymore, so the only way I can eat or brush my teeth is by inserting food, toothbrushes or tubes under my mask. No matter how hard I struggle, I can not remove the mask anymore. I tried a hot bath and it did nothing to soften the elastic. Then, I tried a good sleep to figure out a way of removing after relaxing to think better, but I don't know what to do. Any ideas, please?! I've not been to the doctor yet because I don't want to walk outdoors with this mask on.
From my story, Tema realized that I left the convention wearing the mask, so I've already been seen outdoors while wearing it. Well, in my hurry to post my question, I forgot to mention that when I left the convention I was still wearing the entire costume and there were two other guys who were dressed as Spider-Man as well (both of them wore the classic red and blue version of the costume), so I knew that anyone who saw me on the streets would recognize us as three Spider-Men. Since the three of us ended up taking the same bus and I was the first one to come out of the bus, no one bothered to take his own mask off. I walked the rest of my way home and the people who saw me then must have realized that I was coming back from a party (it was a Friday night). Only upon arriving home I tried to unmask myself (and failed).
I did not want to cut the mask, since I made it myself and did not want to make a new one and did not know where to buy a new one.
The costume shops were closed when I actually thought about asking for help. If I phoned the police or the fire department they would likely think it was a prank call and refuse to take me seriously.
This time I was afraid of being seen outdoors while wearing the mask this time because I did not feel confident enough to wear masks in public without other cosplayers nearby. A group of masked men is a group of cosplayers. One masked man alone looks like a criminal. Adding the fact that my Spider-Man costume is black, it looks even more suspicious. Maybe if I had the classic red and blue costume I would have gone outdoors earlier, for it would be easy to be recognized as Spider-Man.
Finally, I put on my jeans and a black hoodie to disguise my mask (thanks for the idea, Lol) and made use of the darkness to hide my mask under the hood (it was already half past eight in the evening when I stepped out of my house). I live close to the local hospital, so it would be easier to reach than the convention center. I also thought about calling a taxi and explaining my situation by the phone in advance, but I could not pay for a taxi. I was also carrying my ID and walking unarmed to avoid suspicion (no knives, tools or boomsticks).
At the hospital, my story was taken seriously (I am still surprised about that), but I had to wait some forty minutes to be seen because I was not injured or ill. But the doctor finally managed to take my mask off. She softened the elastic with warm water, lubricated my face introducing a gel underneath my mask and using an odd instrument as an improvised lever. It took a few minutes and was difficult, but she took the mask off without having to cut it. This morning, I swapped the tight elastic for a string that is tied around the neck. I had already tried the mask on again after this change and it works perfectly to put it on, adjust it, keep it in place and remove it. I am actually wearing the mask and the full costume now because I am going back to the convention today. Thanks for the advice!

How conscientious a brusher do you have to be for the tiny differences between toothbrushes to make a difference?

Toothbrush bristles becoming bent and ineffective?

Posted on January 30, 2011

Maybe I'm brushing too hard, but the bristles on most of the toothbrushes I've used have all become bent within a matter of 1-3 weeks. Are there better brushes out there, or should I just brush softer?

I think my dogs have gingivitis?!?

Posted on January 23, 2011

They are both 41/2 months and 5 1/2 months and teething, I brush their teeth daily and the last couple of days I've noticed big black marks in their gums surrounding some teeth and their was blood for the first time ever brushing one of them when he got his teeth brushed just then.
Is this gingivitis or is it a natural part of teething?
(If anyone asks why I brush their teeth it's because they are on a BARF diet which is mostly wet and I don't want it to rot their teeth, I do use animal toothbrushes and paste).
So, what do I do?!
BTW I did ask this in the dog section as well but no answers.

Can you get aids from unprotected sex with a prostitute?

Posted on January 22, 2011

I just made a huge mistake. I was drunk and dabbled with a young man, but we forgot to skin up.
I heard that you could only get aids from toothbrushes. We didnt do that, as I had my own. Am I ok then?
