What could have possible happened to my body?

Posted on August 26, 2010

I was at the dentist and while she was lowering the chair to clean my teeth, my stomach started hurting really bad. I felt light headed. And my mouth was producing A LOT of saliva. It was dripping down my shirt. Then I felt like I was going to faint. I felt like throwing up. I went to the bathroom. But after I got up I felt better a minute after. Also, I was gargling fluoride and it gave me a head ache. Im not scared of the dentist btw.
I really was out of it. The pain of everything. Should I be stopping the dentist? Cleaning my shirt? I was soo out of it, I couldnt even focus.

  1. You may be allergic to some substance the dentist used such as the fluoride or were you given gas(nitrous oxide or laughing gas for pain experienced during dental procedures) as well.

What did the dentist say about the episode ? They need to know what you are allergic to so that they do not give it to you again as nit may be more dangerous next time.

I had a similar experience when I was studying for my orthopaedic certificate as a nurse. I was working in the plaster room at the hospital. Plaster of paris casts were no problem for me. But when I was helping out with a ‘hexalite’ plaster leg cast (which is lighter and slightly waterproof) my stomach churned over very sharply. The other nurses told me I looked very pale and I felt like I was going to vomit from the horrible smell of the ‘hexalite’ plaster and vomit.

The other nurses and doctor told me I must be allergic to the hexalite and to go out of the room and sit down. I was recommended not tp do hexalite casts in future.
