What is tooth enamel?
Posted on September 10, 2010
I've never understood what tooth enamel is. Is it the whole of the tooth that we can see. i.e. not the part dug in to the gums, or is on the outside of the part we can see, like some sort of coating. Can someone please end this confusion I have with tooth enamel. Also, my teeth look sort of see-through, I assume this is damaged tooth enamel?

Tooth enamel is the hardest substance in the body. It is what covers the tooth. So what you see on your teeth is your enamel. The "see through" part of your tooth is the enamel. (I’m assuming its your front teeth?) The next layer under the enamel is the dentin and that is what is what makes a tooth sensitive. :)
